Dorothy Mae (Gray) Robinson

ILION - Dorothy Mae (Gray) Robinson, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2024, at Wynn Hospital in Utica, NY. Dorothy was born on September 29, 1941, in Pahokee, Florida, the daughter of Doretha (Hanes) and Theodore Gray. “Dot” as she was affectionally known by her family and friends, came to Utica at a young age and attended local schools. However, in her early twenties, she returned to Florida and spent most of her life there. Dorothy married Leo Robinson, a union that lasted 34 years until his passing in 2008. Dorothy worked in the service industry for most of her life until she became a caregiver to her grandchildren. She loved to cook and took great joy in preparing meals for special occasions, especially meals for her friends in her congregation in Florida. Dorothy was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses for over forty years. Her hope of the resurrection was a solid foundation of her faith, and she shared that hope with others. Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, Doretha and Theodore; stepfather, MC Mathis, and stepmother, Annie Mae Gray; her husband, Leo; daughter, Catherine “Lisa” Twine; brothers, Theodore, and Donald Gray, and Arnold Starling; and sisters, Doretha, Annie Marie, Annette, Edith, Barbara Jean, Rosemary Gray, and Gail Williams. Surviving Dorothy are her daughters, Robin Rene Gary of NY, and Sherry Gray Turner of FL; stepdaughters, Nina Robinson, and Tuesday Fern of SC; brother, George (Sandra) Gray Sr.; sisters, Cassie (Ormond) Ross, Eveleana, Gertrude, and Georgieanna Mathis, Ezell Jones, and Mary Hinkson of NY; brothers, Theodore (Mary) Gray Jr., Wilbur (Margaret), Joseph, John, Bernard, Prescott, Preston, Elijah, and sister, Paulette of FL, Rosemary Gray of FL, and Theotis Starling; grandchildren, Avery and Edward Twine, Bryan Turner, Eveleana (Lena) and Trace Barnes; great-grandchildren, Titus, Talia, and Treaure Barnes, and Jerryn, and Osiris Turner. She also leaves numerous nieces and nephews, and special mention of her grandson, Edward Twine and nephew, George Gray Jr., who were always there to assist her when needed. The family will honor and commemorate Dorothy’s life at a private time. This tribute to Dorothy’s life was lovingly written by her family.
