Mrs. Dorothy (D'Amico) Roberts

UTICA - Mrs. Dorothy (D’Amico) Roberts, age 84, went home to the Lord when she passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 in the comfort of her home with her loving family by her side. Born in Utica on August 16, 1933, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Salvatore and Josephine (Testa) D’Amico. She was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School, and after she raised her children she continued her education at MVCC where she completed her course work for a career as a medical secretary. On November 14, 1953 she married Robert J. Roberts. They were perfect for each other and found so much happiness in their 64 years together. They were a remarkable couple! Throughout her life, Dorothy worked. She was employed as a valued cashier at several grocery stores including P&C, Loblaws, and Chanatry’s. She subsequently began her vocation as a medical secretary at St. Luke’s Memorial Hospital in their Emergency Room and Rehabilitation Unit. During her service in both departments, she was the recipient of an Employee Appreciation Award for Outstanding Dedication and Performance. Dorothy was also dedicated as the matriarch of her family. She was the go-to person and the voice of reason. When she spoke, her words of wisdom were respected and everyone followed her lead. Her inspirational thoughts and talks encouraged her loved ones and raised their self-esteem. She expected the best from them. She was also nurturing, loving, and generous with her time. As a grandmother, she learned how to love even more, and had a chance to know each of her grandchildren individually. To this day, they speak of her unconditional love and unwavering support. When her great-grandchildren arrived, she became a part of their lives and encouraged harmony among all her generations. Dorothy was talented when it came to Italian cooking and baking, and her home was the place for all holiday celebrations and special occasions. She had many hobbies and recreational pursuits: she enjoyed dancing with her husband, sewing for her children, visiting Vernon Downs, dining out, and embarking on bus trips to Bingo destinations. Dorothy was true to her Catholic faith and honored the Lord. She was a communicant of St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church. In looking back on her life, Dorothy will be remembered as a sensitive soul, blessed with a generous heart. She left this world without regrets. Dorothy is survived by her husband, Bob; her son, Robert Roberts, Jr.; her daughter, Bonnie L. Miner; grandchildren, Robert J. III and Michele Roberts, Paul A. Roberts, Melissa and Amed Cardona, and their mother Jeanette George who was a beloved daughter-in-law; Tory and Heather Rios, Robert J. Rios, and Justin T. Miner. She also knew the love of her daughter-in-law, Linda Roberts. She also leaves her great-grandchildren, Max, and Stella Roberts, Antonio Cardona; Alessandro Rios, Gabriella LoConti, Jayce, Angelo, and Lainey Rios; Brianna Miner and Ghian D’Amico Miner; her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousin Madeline Garofalo; in-laws, Dolores and James Bonanza, John “Jackie” Roberts, and Jean Jackson; and her longtime friend, Florence Caroli. She was predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Salvatore Jr. and Angela D’Amico; nephew, Donald D’Amico; and cousins, Congetta “Connie” Buehler, Marian Petrosino, and Josephine “Josie” DeMola. . The family is grateful to Dr. Jerry Sloan for his professional care, the personnel of Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc. who provided strength to the family and most of all comfort to Dorothy during her final journey. At her bedside was her daughter, Bonnie, daughter-in-law, Jeanette, and granddaughters, Melissa and Heather, all of whom gave her the gift of being in her own home; and her gracious neighbors, Barb and Annie Allesandro for their concern and kind acts. Visitation will be held Friday from 5:00-6:30 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Dorothy’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Friday evening at 6:30 at the conclusion of visitation with Rev. John Buehler officiating the ceremony.
