Dorothy Irene "Dot" Hobbs

MCRAE, GA - Dorothy Irene “Dot” Hobbs, age 80, a loving mother of six and a woman of deep faith, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, April 16, 2026, reuniting with her loved ones who had gone before her, especially her beloved son, Teroy “Junebug” Hobbs. Born on September 16, 1945, in McRae, Georgia, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Julies and Melcina (McRae) Hobbs. In her earlier years, Dot was lovingly cared for by her adoptive parents, the Brown family. She was raised in a large and close-knit family, surrounded by siblings, aunts, uncles, and extended loved ones who helped shape her strong sense of compassion and community. This marked the beginning of a rich and meaningful life rooted in her unwavering faith for over 80 years. Dot, being raised in a different time, had to leave grammar school at a very young age. She did not let life’s trials and tribulations define her and spent much of her time self-teaching and continuing her education. Through her dedication and perseverance, she was later able to earn her GED. Dorothy was a woman of strong faith, always giving her time to others and weaving that kindness into her family and friends. She held many occupations throughout her life, but her greatest callings were serving as an ordained pastor, which she considered a true gift rather than a job, and her role as a mother. She remained strongly connected to God through prayer and scripture and instilled the importance of reading and studying the Bible in her children, a tradition she later carried into the lives of her grandchildren. Dorothy loved being outdoors and staying active, often found taking numerous selfies. Dorothy will be dearly missed by her family, especially her four daughters, one son, and her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as the many people who considered her a mother. Dorothy’s legacy of faith, strength, and unconditional love will continue to live on in all who were blessed to know her. “Mom, you showed us how to face challenges with courage and grace. Your strength will inspire us forever.” As Dot would say as she reaches her eternal rest in the peace of God, “Great God of Zion, I made it.” Dorothy is survived by her loving children and their partners, Randolph and Suzie Brown, Mary and Theodore Cox, Barbara Black, Adel Woodard, and Mary Catherine Braswell and Marc Robinson. She held dear the memory of her youngest son who preceded her, Teroy “Junebug” Hobbs. Her legacy continues through her plentiful grandchildren, Randolph Jr., Traci, Cornealius, Brianna, Micheal, Christopher, Nicole, Amanda, Shawon, Matthew, Gaelon, Shirley, Berndele, Zeffeire, Xiquiellle, Jahquan, Jahnea, Harold, and Marc; her 27 great-grandchildren; her brothers and their spouses, Carlton and Beaula Hobbs, and Pastor Emmit and Gretchan Eady. Dorothy never kept far from her mind the fond memories she held of her siblings who preceded her, Edward Hobbs Jr. and Lulamae Daniels. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. The family would like to extend their gratitude to her honorary daughter, Nakia Williams, for the care and compassion she afforded Dot at times when others could not be present. Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Dorothy’s Home Going Service and Celebration of Life will commence at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
