Dorothy (Robinson) LaFache

Mrs. Dorothy (Robinson) LaFache, of Utica, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 20, 2010 with the comfort of her family by her side. Dorothy was the daughter of the late Walter and Pansy (Page) Robinson of East Guilford, NY, where she was raised and educated. She later relocated to Utica where she married Louis F. LaFache who passed away on December 23, 1989; they tended to their marriage with much care and sacrificed for the betterment of their children. An accomplished seamstress, Dorothy created fine outfits for family and friends, masterfully designed and fit for special occasions. But her most important calling in life was that of a loving mother, not only to her own children, but also to their friends and extended families, many of whom lovingly knew her as "Nanny." Dorothy lived for the joy of her children and grandchildren, and she was the reason they all came together to celebrate life’s daily events and special occasions. She was a paragon of unconditional love and her children lived by her wisdom and guidance. Affectionately known to her loved ones as “Rose Kennedy”, she was the matriarch who oversaw the "compound" on Welsh Bush Road, a warm place where all were welcomed with sincere hospitality. She enjoyed traveling and trying her hand at games of chance. She was a parishioner of St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church. Dorothy is survived by her children and their families, Louis F. LaFache, Jr., Paul E. LaFache, Theresa Custodero-Tripolone and her husband, Carmen, Anthony J. LaFache, Esq. and his wife, Linda, and Elizabeth and Ronald Sacco. Dorothy also loved Rose Cardillo DeSantis as a daughter. She also leaves her grandchildren, Deborah and Rick Giffune, Diana and Ricky Moskal, Louis F. LaFache III, Jacqueline M. and Mariusz Lukasik, Kristin and Joseph Speciale, Kathryn Custodero, Kara LaFache, Trisha LaFache, Anthony LaFache, Julie Sacco Bastedo and her husband, Michael, Alyssa Sacco, and Theresa Fumarola; her great-grandchildren, James and Zachary Goldstein; Serae LaFache, Ada Bastedo, and Joseph Speciale. Survivors also include her nieces, nephews, especially acknowledging Rev. Anthony P. LaFache, and her godson, Louis LaFache, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Carl and Gladys Robinson, Archie and Ona Robinson, and Paul Robinson; her sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Anthony Brown; her in-laws, Anthony P. and Angela M. LaFache, and Mary and Anthony Laino; and her nieces, Christine LaFache, and Elizabeth Anne LaFache. The family is grateful to the medical staff and personnel of the Masonic Care Community of NY, especially those of the Brooklyn Household, for the excellent and loving care rendered to Dorothy and her family. In keeping with Dorothy’s wishes, there will be no public visitation. By family request, please omit floral offerings. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Dorothy’s Mass of Christian Burial and Celebration of Life which will commence on Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church celebrated by her nephew, Rev. Anthony P. LaFache. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the service. Entombment will take place in the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. In the words of Dorothy, "Love Fixes Everything."
