Mrs. Doris B. (Bocchino) Cavo

Mrs. Doris B. (Bocchino) Cavo, age 87, passed away on Monday, August 22, 2011 at the Villas of Sherman Brook in Clinton where she had been residing for 6 1/2 years. Hospice enabled Mom to remain in her home for her final weeks with a loving community around her. Born in Utica on January 3, 1924, Doris was the daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine Bocchino. Raised and educated in Utica, she was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School. On June 26, 1943, she married Alfonso J. “Funzie” Cavo with whom Doris shared a devoted union of almost 60 years prior to his passing on February 25, 2003. Doris was employed by the General Electric Company for close to 20 years. She also took great pride as a homemaker and mother, encouraging the success of her family which gave her great joy. She loved cooking, sharing family dinners, and traveling, especially to their second home in Florida where many happy and cherished memories were made. She was a former parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Parish. Doris is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Bob Kloppel of Shelby, NC; her sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Terry Cavo of Hilton Head, SC, Al and Sue Cavo of New Hartford, and Richard and Doreen Cavo of Avon, CT; her grandchildren, Rob Kloppel, Ben Kloppel, Anne Marie and Scott Mourhess, Theresa and Jim Wasley, John and Michelle Cavo, Andy and Kristen Cavo, Betsy and Nate Marks, Philip and Mariela Cavo, Matthew and Tara Cavo, Amanda Cavo, Emily Ridenour, and Elena Ridenour; and her 13 great-grandchildren, Jackson and Samuel Mourhess, Jacob and Isabella Meg Wasley, Christopher Cavo, Joshua Cavo, Charlotte and Cora Marks, Annabelle Cavo, Emma, Taylor, Aidan, and Harper Rose Cavo. Mom will be welcomed into heaven by cherished great-granddaughter, Margaret Grace Wasley, who passed away on January 10, 2011. In addition, she leaves her sisters, Connie Cavo of New Hartford, and Emilie Cavo of Port St. Lucie, FL. Her extended family includes many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and in-laws. She was predeceased by her brother, Fred Bocchino. Doris’ children wish to extend gratitude to the Director of the Villas of Sherman Brook, Meg Cardamone, assisted by Janet Davoli, and the entire staff for the outstanding care and personal attention given to Mom for the past 6 ½ years. Deep appreciation also goes to Doris’ caregivers, especially Cindy Stevener for 5 years of loving and dedicated commitment. Also assisting and caring for Doris as if they were family were Johanna Ayoub, Luann White, Rose Nelson, Tina Giglio, Veronica Alesandro, Zaffa Marrotta, and Judy Neal. As Mom always said, " You're beautiful!...You're wonderful!" Visitation will be held Friday (tomorrow) from 4:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. For those wishing to do so, donations may be made to the Doris Cavo Memorial Fund for special enrichment activities for the residents of The Villas of Sherman Brook; envelopes will be available at the funeral home or may be mailed to NBT Bank, PO Box 365, Clinton, NY 13323. Doris’ funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Saturday morning at 10:00 from the funeral home and at 11:00 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. James Cesta. Entombment will take place in Calvary Mausoleum.
