Dora "Ruth" (Keding) Russo

Mrs. Dora Ruth (Keding) Russo, age 91, passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2013 in the comfort and dignity of her home with the love and support of her family. Dora was born on May 13, 1922, in Laugszargen, Germany, the daughter of the late Frank and Maria (Kosgalwies) Keding. The family relocated in 1930 to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada where Dora eventually became a graduate of Alberta Business College. On March 25, 1950, Dora married Frederick T. Russo of Utica; they enjoyed a traditional, loving relationship that continued for 50 years until Frederick’s passing on April 2, 2000. Mrs. Russo was a medical secretary, working for Upstate Services Medical Supply Co. She was also employed by McHarris Gift Store in the Grand Union Shopping Center. Dora applied her vigorous work ethic and intense dedication to her role as homemaker as well. Her children greatly appreciated the organized structure and important guidelines she provided them. She tended to her home and family with love, caring and devotion. Dora�����s personal interests included antique collecting and fine art, and she always enjoyed a good garage sale. She was a gifted cook, specializing in German and Italian cuisine. Dora enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening and preserved her home- grown fruits and vegetables. Mrs. Russo is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Frederika C. Foreman of Wooster, NY, Ilse M. and Eugene Dubiel of Frankfort, and Tassey A. and Thomas Mariani of Darnestown, MD. She leaves her beloved grandchildren, Kimberley and Robert Beauharnois, Margaret Catherine Mariani, Michael David Dubiel, Anna Isabelle Mariani, and Nicholas Joseph Mariani; and her great-grandchildren Braeden and Larissa Beauharnois. Also left to mourn her passing are her cherished nephews, Frank, Mark, Darcy, Grant and Ronnie Wilson of Alberta, Canada; special nephew Roland DeCarlo of New Hartford, and many other relatives locally. She also leaves her devoted friends Ralph and Florence Risley and Rosella Siegenthaler. She was predeceased by her sisters, Traute Wilson, and Gerda Keding; a nephew, Donnie Wilson; and her dear friends, Muriel Sack, and Lorraine Galotti. Dora’s family is especially grateful for the care she received from Dr. Steven LaGrant and Nancy McGuire, FNP-C, the nursing staff at the Charles T. Sitrin Healthcare Center, Clarissa, Ashley, Kaylie, Will, and Aaron; and therapists Yvette, Barb, and David. A special thank you to the nurses of Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. is offered to Lisalei, Jessica, Julie, Kayla, Georgia, Donna, Irene, Jill, Laura, Elena, Jan and Melissa. Thanks are extended to Sharon Stillwell Tomaino for her assistance and friendship. Heartfelt gratitude is extended to Brianna Stillwell for the loving, respectful and diligent care she provided to Dora during her last days. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4-7 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Expressions of sympathy in the form of donations in lieu of floral offerings may be considered to Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation, or to the Rome Humane Society in honor of Lainey; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Dora’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Saturday morning at 9:30 from the funeral home and at 10:30 at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Mark Kaminski. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
