Dolores M. "DeeDee" Ganim

UTICA – On Saturday, June 24, 2023, Dolores M. “DeeDee” Ganim, age 86, peacefully passed into eternity. Born on August 28, 1936, to the late Joseph A. and Marie A. (Koury) Ganim, Dolores attended Utica schools and graduated from T. R. Proctor High School in 1954, as well as continuing her education at a local business school. The Ganim family resided in East Utica at their family homestead on Rutger St. In 1987. DeeDee spent a considerable amount of her working years as an employee of Oneida County as a Data Processor – which she found especially exciting during the inception of the computer years. Always dressed for success, she enjoyed her position immensely and she was beloved by her colleagues. After retirement, she continued her relationships with many of her co-workers. During her life, she cherished all the time spent and the memory of her late sister and brother-in-law, Henrietta “Mary” and Pasquale “Pat” Calenzo, who, when together, were referred to as “The Three Musketeers.” Throughout her life, she and her sister Mary were inseparable. The smile upon her face exposed her gentle soul and family and friends alike felt her love. Bingo and shopping was her pastime of choice and on any given day, you would see DeeDee, Mary and Pat at a bingo parlor or shopping center. DeeDee was blessed with this special group of people that filled her heart with precious memories at all these activities. A faith-filled woman, Dolores never failed to renew her spirit and her love of the Lord when attending services at her home parish, St. Louis Gonzaga Church. DeeDee will live on in the hearts of her cousins, Gail and Anthony Sfeir, Janet Ganim Bliss, Gregory and Jackie Ganim, Charlie Ganim, and her cousins in France including Sonia. She will also be fondly remembered by her extended family, Andrew and Linda Convertino, Dennis and Jennifer Nicotera, Kenneth Elias and David Veselsky, Joseph, Jr. and Elaine Vatalaro, Barbara Vatalaro, and Byron, Jr. and Angela Elias. During her lifetime, DeeDee was blessed with many memories of her deceased Ganim and Koury, Aunts, Uncles, cousins, extended family and friends that warmed her heart. The family would like to extend thanks to the care of the staff of the Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing at Utica, who were very appreciated for being so personal, kind and fulfilling of DeeDee’s needs when she was in their care. A special note of gratitude is extended to Jessica, RN, and all the 2nd floor staff, and Lisa Holmes, N.P. who made DeeDee’s stay a priority. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Dolores’ funeral service which will commence on Tuesday morning, July 18, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Louis Gonzaga Church, 520 Rutger Street, where her Divine Liturgy of the Faithful Departed will be celebrated by Father Boutros El Hachem. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of Mass. In lieu of floral offerings, donations may be made in DeeDee’s memory to St. Louis Gonzaga Church online at https://saintlouisgonzaga.org/giving; envelopes will also be available at the service. She will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery with her sister and brother-in-law at the convenience of the family.
