Mrs. Cynthia J. (Deon) Hotaling

Mrs. Cynthia J. (Deon) Hotaling, age 62, passed away on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center with her loving family by her side. Born in New Hartford on August 5, 1952, Cynthia was the daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth F. “Liz” (Militano) Deon. Raised and educated locally, she attended T.R. Proctor High School and the Utica School of Beauty Culture. On July 12, 1980 she married Frank L. Hotaling with whom she shared 34 years in a loving union of reciprocal love and respect. In her earlier years, Cynthia held a position as a hair stylist at the Men’s Limited Salon on Upper Genesee Street. Cynthia was blessed with an optimistic, energetic, and outgoing personality. She had a smile on her face and laughter in her heart which she conveyed to everyone who shared conversation with her. Her table was always teeming with food prepared for her loved ones, and always complemented with her delicious homemade cookies. She enjoyed playing bingo and taking in sightseeing rides with her family. Cynthia used the language of love to communicate and care for animals. She kept them healthy and happy and loved their companionship. She knew the unspoken joy that comes with caring for mankind’s best friends. She was a communicant of St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church. Cynthia is survived by her husband, Frank; her son and future daughter-in-law, Frank Hotaling, Jr. and his fiancée Terissa Cosar of Mohawk; and her step-sons, Michael Hotaling, and Scott Hotaling. She also leaves her sister and brother-in-law, Mary Beth and Ted Derby, Jr. of Wellington, FL; her brother, Dominick J. Deon of Frankfort; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and in-laws, Joseph and Joanne Hotaling. She will be lovingly remembered by her dear friends Sandra Kakaty of Utica, and Angela Rice of FL. She was predeceased by her grandparents, Dominick and Elizabeth (Gulla) Militano. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Memorial contributions may be considered to Spring Farm Cares, in lieu of flowers; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Cynthia’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Thursday afternoon at 12:00 from the funeral home and at 1:00 at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Mark Kaminski. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
