Mr. Cosmo LaNeve

Mr. Cosmo LaNeve, age 86, passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 in the privacy of his home with his family by his side. Born in Utica on April 20, 1930, Cosmo was the son of the late Pietro and Maria (Muto) LaNeve. Raised and educated locally, he was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School. He furthered his studies by attending trade school. A proud veteran, Cosmo honorably served his country in the United States Army. Cosmo worked as a machinist at Chicago Pneumatic for many years, the position from which he retired. He was very generous of heart and deeply devoted to his family. He loved to shop with the intention of bestowing his “bargains” upon his loved ones. Cosmo loved baseball and he treasured the trips he made to see the Yankees and the Giants with his family. Cosmo was a faithful communicant of St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church. He loved and looked forward to the Annual Festival and the St. Cosmos & Damian feast as a time to honor and celebrate his patron saint. Although he never had children, he relished the relationship he shared with his beloved nieces and nephews, especially acknowledging James W. “Jim” Jr. and Catherine “Cathy” Hanretty, John H. Hanretty, Patricia and Richard Monescalchi, Theresa and Brian Schilling, Frank J. Jr. and Linda Calenzo, Peter A. and Nancy Calenzo, Larry and Christy Calenzo, Maryann and Lon Thrasher, Elizabeth “Betty” Calenzo, and Richard and Carla Calenzo; his great-nieces and great-nephews, with special mention of Tracy and Dennis Bova who so lovingly cared for their uncle; and great-great nephew Jimmy Hanretty who enjoyed special outings with his uncle, especially to Secret Garden and Red Lobster restaurants. He was predeceased by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Loretta “Laura” and Frank J. Calenzo, and Rosemary and James Hanretty; and his brothers and sister-in-law, George LaNeve, and Dominick and Tina LaNeve. The family wishes to acknowledge Cosmo’s nephew John “Jack” Hanretty who lovingly devoted his efforts in caring for his uncle; his niece Cathy Hanretty who offered her loving care and guidance; his niece Elizabeth “Betty” Calenzo who provided spiritual guidance; and his niece Maryann Thrasher who helped with his wellbeing and quality of life. The family is grateful to his caregivers, Suzette Jones who he loved like a granddaughter, and Charlene who also assisted in his care. Visitation will be held Monday from 4:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Anthony & St. Agnes Parish in honor of Cosmo’s love for his church; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Cosmo’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Tuesday morning at 9:30 from the funeral home and at 10:30 at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where his Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Mark Kaminski. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
