Cora (Pisano) Folino

Mrs. Cora (Pisano) Folino, age 90, of Utica, passed away on Thursday, August 5, 2010 at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center with the love and support of her family. Born in Utica on October 13, 1919, Cora was the daughter of the late John and Rochitella (Diprisia) Pisano. Raised and educated locally, she was a 1937 graduate of Utica Free Academy and then attended the Utica School of Commerce. On June 14, 1941 she married Frank E. Folino, Sr. with whom she shared 39 years in a close and loving union filled with mutual love and respect. Frank passed away on October 11, 1980. During her working life, Cora was employed by the General Electric Company Radio Receiver Plant for fifteen years. She also held a position as secretary for a local carpenters’ union and builders’ exchange. A loving, caring woman, Cora welcomed everyone into her home and her door was always open. She was a generous, selfless matriarch who devoted herself to her family, especially her cherished grandchildren. She will be remembered for her supportive nature, generous spirit, and sense of humor. At home, she was queen of the stove, known for her baking, cooking and especially her delicious meatballs. During her leisure time, she enjoyed solving crossword puzzles. She was a communicant of St. Anthony and St. Agnes Church. Cora is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Corinne and Peter Spartano of Syracuse; her sons and daughter-in-law, Fred and Doreen Folino of Marcy, and Frank E. Folino, Jr. of Utica, with whom she resided; her grandchildren, Joseph Folino, Lisa Falange, Antony Folino, Kelly Killius, and Karra and Dan Battaglia; and her great-grandchildren, Rena Folino, and Clare Battaglia. Survivors also include her nieces, especially the compassion shown by Pattie DiSpirito, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and in-law, Harriann Folino of Clifton Park. She was predeceased by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Fannie and Peter P. Cavallo, and Rose and John Pinto; and her brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence G. and Margaret Pisano. The family is grateful to the nurses and staff of the Sitrin Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center and the St. Elizabeth Medical Center for all their care and concern, with special mention to Dr. Mathew Ulahanan. In keeping with Cora’s wishes, her family will gather privately to honor and celebrate her life. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral service which will commence on Saturday morning at 10:30 at Historic Old St. John’s Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the service. Expressions of sympathy in the form of donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in lieu of floral offerings; envelopes will be available at the church. Committal prayers and entombment will take place in Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave.
