Congetta R. "Katie" (Callari) Vittucci

Mrs. Congetta R. “Katie” (Callari) Vittucci, age 92, a resident of the Presbyterian Residential Community, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 20, 2011 at the Lutheran Home. Congetta was born in Utica on March 26, 1919, the daughter of the late Leopoldo “Leo” and Alice “Lena” (Russo) Callari. Raised and educated locally, she was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School Class of 1937. She furthered her studies at nursing school where she was trained in various medical specialties including LPN, Laboratory Technician and X-ray Technician. On July 13, 1946 she married Raymond J. Vittucci with whom she shared 59 years in a loving union devoted to each other until Raymond’s passing on March 7, 2006. Katie was a devoted mother and wife most of her years. She also held employment with Griffiss Air Force Base, Broad Acres, and Cornell Laboratories holding nursing and technician positions. In all aspects of her life Katie was selfless and willing to help others. She enjoyed tending to her roses, shopping, dining out, socializing, and attending formal dinners. She was a member of the Italian Cultural Club, the Sons of Italy Lodge #2054, and one of the founding families of the former Blessed Sacrament Parish. She was a parishioner of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Katie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Annette A. and Peter I. Wizes of Mills River, NC. She cherished the memories of her daughter, Alice Hasemeier, who passed away on November 17, 1989, and her son, Matthew E. Vittucci, who passed away on May 19, 2007. She also leaves her grandchildren, Rachel Payne Blair and her husband Anthony Blair of MA, and Peter Ray Hasemeier of Oregon; her great-granddaughter, Sophia Rosemary Blair; her brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Pat Callari of Utica; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and in-laws Frances Vittucci, and Pearl Vittucci. She was predeceased by her brother-in-laws, Angelo, Rocco, and Matteo Vittucci. The family extends gratitude to the staff of the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center 2West for their kindness; and a dear family friend, Nancy Wolfe, for her constant love and caring. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St. Katie’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Wednesday morning at 11:30 from the funeral home and at 12:30 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. James Cesta. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery.
