Concetta M. "Connie" (Ciufo) Scarafile

Concetta M. “Connie” (Ciufo) Scarafile, age 81, a resident of the Martin Luther Home, entered the Kingdom of the Lord on Sunday, June 10, 2007. Her passing took place in the loving comfort and support of her family at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center. Born in Utica on June 30, 1925, Connie was the daughter of the late Philip and Josephine (Pardi) Ciufo. Raised and educated in Utica, she attended T. R. Proctor High School where she graduated with honors. At one time she was married to Daniel Scarafile who passed away on October 22, 1989. Connie’s working career included positions at the National Biscuit Co., the F. W. Woolworth’s Department Store, and an appointment as executive secretary for Special Metals Corp. She was a diligent worker, dedicated to her responsibilities. Among her many refinements, she had great charisma and she would light up a room. Early on in life she was subjected to health issues, but with her indomitable spirit and strength of character, she was an inspiration to her family. As a great teacher of the important and valuable things in life, she provided a sense of security for which her children will be eternally grateful. As a mother, she instilled empathy, compassion, and an incredible work ethic in her children. She was most proud of raising a wonderful family and the fruits of her life were her children. The labor was well-worth her efforts for they honored her until the last moment of her life. Because she had such a kind heart, she nurtured special relationships with children and animals. Her leisure activities included being an avid card player, a great dancer, traveling, appreciating Broadway shows and productions, and having an eclectic appreciation of music. She was devoted in her worship of the Blessed Mother and was a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Connie is survived by her children and their spouses: Joseph P. and Gail Scarafile of Utica, Marlene and James Hancock of Herkimer, Marguerite and Joseph Spano of New York Mills, Daniel Scarafile of Westmoreland, and Donna Scarafile of New Hartford and Norman Jacobson; and her grandchildren, Shari Scarafile, Joseph Scarafile, Joseph Spano, Lisa Spano, and Daniel, Michael, and Nicholas Scarafile. Also surviving is her sister, Shirley A. Baas and her husband Paul Kasperski of SC; her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and longtime friend, Lena Cittadino. Always close to her heart was the memory of her daughter-in-law, Rosalie Scarafile, who preceded her in death. She also leaves a very special aunt, Katherine Manfredo. The family wishes to thank the Lutheran Home, especially the staff of Valley Crest, and Julie Boylan, for her tender and loving care; the Allen Calder Wing and the CCU at Faxton-St. Luke’s Medical Center; Gary Olivella, Clinical Social Worker, for always guiding Connie with great commitment; Helen Delia and Gladys Williams for being loyal friends and caregivers; and to all those who tended to Connie over all these years. Her family is forever grateful. Visitation will be held Wednesday (today) from 4:00 – 7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc. 932 South St. corner of Hammond Ave. Connie’s funeral service will commence on Thursday morning at 10:30 from the funeral home and at 11:30 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish at Mt. Carmel Church where her Mass of Christian Burial and Celebration of Life will take place. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
