Clorinda L. "Cookie" (Marggi) Saber

UTICA – Clorinda L. “Cookie” (Marggi) Saber, age 79, went home to be with the Lord when she passed away with her loving husband by her side on Monday, January 8, 2024. Clorinda was born in Utica on February 15, 1944, the daughter of the late Harold G. and Teresa R. (Conte) Marggi. Raised in Utica, she was a proud graduate of Utica Free Academy/Class of 1962 and furthered her education at MVCC. On June 10, 1972, she married Elias “Louie” Saber, and together they shared a loving and devoted union of over 51 years. They were true companions who were inseparable and did everything together with love. Cookie spent nearly 24 years in the banking industry, beginning her career at Oneida National Bank which later became Fleet Bank. She truly loved helping people and rose to the position of bank manager. She will always be remembered as “Cookie from the bank”. More recently, she worked at Blue Cross Blue Shield in customer service, the position from which she retired. In her retirement years she also enjoyed helping folks at AAA. Cookie was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. The depth of love she had for her family was undeniably exceptional and evident to all. She was incredibly proud of her family and truly found joy in sharing their accomplishments with others, especially when it came to her grandson Mason. She held a beautiful heart, and her loving conversations always made you feel special. Cookie was a die-hard fan of the New York Yankees and New York Giants. Her love for cooking was renowned, her specialties included “whatever you loved, she made.” Everything she made included her special touch. She was talented in many cuisines, especially her Italian and Lebanese foods. Cookie was a parishioner of St. Louis Gonzaga Church where she was a member of the St. Mary's Guild. Cookie is survived by her loving husband, Louie; daughter, Teresa Saber Hamrick; and her grandson, Mason Anthony Hamrick whom she adored; her son and his love, George Saber and Heather Briggs and her children William, and John; her sister and brother-in-law, Candy M. and Michael Rizzo; and her brother, Billy "Squeeze" Marggi. Cookie treasured the memory of her sister, Christine A. "Chrissy" (Marggi) Priore, who passed away on June 18, 2015; and is survived by her brother-in-law, Anthony D. "Tony" Priore. She also leaves to cherish her memory many nieces and nephews, especially acknowledging Carissa and Chris Asaro, and her godson, Michael Rizzo and Sara, all with whom she shared a special bond; great-nieces, great-nephews; and cousins, especially Cathy Basi, and Phyllis DeSarro who were dear to her heart. She also leaves behind in-laws, Abraham and Ava Saber, Tony and Terry Saber, Joseph and Hassan Saber, Fawaz and Barbara Saber, Saber and Amahl Saber, Habeib and Nazah Saber, Zakia and Youssef Chamoun, and Rose and John Hadchiti; and her goddaughter, Kristen Basi Scheibel. She was preceded in death by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, George H. and Shama (Chamoun) Saber. Cookie’s family will honor and commemorate her life at a private time. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Clorinda's funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Sunday, January 21, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. at St Louis Gonzaga Church, 520 Rutger St., where the Divine Liturgy of the Faithful Departed will be celebrated by Father Boutros El Hachem. There will be an opportunity to greet the family at the conclusion of the service. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
