Claire M. Goodhines

Miss Claire M. Goodhines, age 62, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 17, 2013 in the comfort and privacy of her home. Claire was born in Lowville on July 22, 1950, the daughter of the late Raymond and Ethel (Tuffy) Goodhines. Raised and educated locally, she was a graduate of Utica Free Academy/Class of 1968. At one time, Claire was employed at the Genesee Nursing Home and later at the St. Joseph Nursing Home where she worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse for many years. Lastly, she held a position at the Lutheran Home. Claire sustained a strong devotion to her patients and pride in her vocation. She was caring and nurturing by nature, and self-reliant and independent in character. She cherished her connection with nature when camping in the outdoors and canoeing on Hinckley Lake. She loved to travel, especially with her friend, Jackie, with whom she shared her most memorable trip to the Holy Land. She was blessed with a loving family, especially her nieces and nephews who were always near and dear. She took a great interest in attending their activities and special family gatherings. She enjoyed the Broadway Theater League productions. She held a deep spirituality in her heart which was a source of solace, and practiced her faith at St. Mark’s Church. Claire is survived by her siblings, Barbara Goodhines and Robert Price, Sally and her husband John Raab, Joyce and her husband Robert Jennings, all of Utica, Kenneth and his wife Susan Goodhines of Middleville, Ellen Saramaha, and Philip Goodhines, both of Utica. She was predeceased by her sisters, Shirley Pettys, and Phyllis Schmidt who passed on March 5th of this year; and her special friend and sister in Christ, Jacqueline Kennedy. Also left to remember her are many nieces and nephews; she was also blessed to be the godmother of Theresa Gauthier; great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. Claire’s family appreciates the timely response, efforts, and kindness provided by the Schuyler Volunteer Rescue Team. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4:00-6:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Memorial contributions in Claire’s honor may be considered to the Multiple Sclerosis Society in memory of her late mother; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Claire’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Friday morning at 9:30 from the funeral home and at 10:30 at St. Mark’s Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Mark Pasik. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
