Mrs. Cheryl A. (Scofield) Rocco

Mrs. Cheryl A. (Scofield) Rocco, age 68, formerly of Utica and currently of Ilion, passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Born in Utica on January 28, 1944, Cheryl was the daughter of the late Floyd and Dorothy (Goldy) Scofield. She was raised and educated locally. On June 5, 1965 she married Francis A. “Frank” Rocco, Sr. with whom she shared 21 years until his passing on March 14, 1987. Together, they shared their love and the blessing of their children. Cheryl worked in her vocation as a Certified Nursing Assistant at the Masonic Home of Central NY and later at St. Joseph Nursing Home, the position from which she retired. Quiet and caring by nature, Cheryl was also very perceptive, strong-willed, and competitive. She enjoyed baking for her family, bowling, playing cards, reading, crocheting, solving crossword puzzles and word-finding games. She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church. Cheryl is survived by her children and their spouses, Lynn and James Ludden, Francis and Karen Rocco, Laurie Rocco, Thomas and Michele Rocco, and Patrick Rocco; her grandchildren, Christina Rocco, Michael and Megan Sweezey, Amanda Sweezey, Cody Guerra, Brian and Amanda Rocco, Courtney Guerra, Brandon Rocco, Camille Guerra, Paul Bulger, Anthony Rocco, Curstin Guerra, Brianna Rocco, Ryan Bulger, Nicholas Rocco, Rosaleigh Ludden, Antonia Ludden, and Kimberly Ludden; and her great-grandchildren, Patrick Jones Jr., Jackson Rocco, Hailey Sweezey, Lilyanna Rivera, and Kyrie Rocco. Among those left to mourn her untimely passing are her sister, Barbara Orr; sisters-in-law, Ann LaBella, and Joanne Scofield; brother-in-law, Leonard Rocco; and nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her brothers, Robert “Bobby” Scofield, and Floyd “Tom” Scofield; her sister, Gretchen D’Aprix; and her grandson, Chad Guerra. The family is appreciative of the efforts and dedication of Dr. Adanna Akujuo, Dr. Narender Sarabu, Dr. Ramesh Cherukuri, and the staff at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center for all their professional care. Visitation will be held Monday from 4:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. In lieu of floral offerings, memorial contributions may be considered to the St. Elizabeth Medical Center Cardiothoracic Unit; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Cheryl’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Tuesday afternoon at 12:30 at the funeral home officiated by Pastor Anita Mohar and Msgr. Francis Willenburg. Interment will follow graveside at Calvary Cemetery.
