Mr. Charles Anthony "Tony" Sims-Hauser

LAS VEGAS, NV – Mr. Charles Anthony “Tony” Sims-Hauser was reunited with family and loved ones who went before him when he passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 14, 2023 in the comfort and dignity of his home. Tony was born in Utica on December 29, 1955 to Juanita (Eaves) Sims and the late George Gilbert Sims, II. He attended Jefferson Elementary School and was a graduate of J.F.K. High School. After high school, Tony attended the School of Visual Arts in New York City to pursue his dream of becoming a writer for films. He went on to receive various awards in screenwriting. Tony kept his schedule open, working traditional jobs on and off, so that he could pursue his passion and be a part of any film writing opportunities that came his way. It was in searching for his big break that he found himself in Las Vegas and stayed. Tony was known as a gentle person who greatly valued his privacy, and his kindness was felt by all who knew him. Tony learned to read at a very early age. One of his mother’s sweetest summer day memories was watching him sitting under a tree reading to his little neighborhood friends. He remained an avid reader his entire life. Understandably, his love of books and stories helped to spur his dream of becoming a writer. Tony attended historic Hope Chapel AME Zion Church where he enjoyed Sunday School and served as a church usher as he grew older. Tony is survived by his mother, Juanita (Eaves) Sims and was preceded in death by his father, George Gilbert Sims, II and his sister, Patricia. As the youngest child, Tony had an especially close bond with his older sister, Patty. They cared for each other deeply. He was additionally predeceased by his paternal grandparents, George and Esther (Moss) Sims; maternal grandparents, John and Helen (Murray) Eaves; aunts, Ella (Sims) Cartwright, Rebah Eaves Dudley; and uncles, John D. Eaves, Edgar Marshall Eaves, and Charles Sims. He leaves to cherish his memory his dear older brother, George G. “Gil”, III and his wife, Gloria Sims of Virginia. Also left to cherish his memory are his nephew, Broderick Sims; niece, Brittany Sims; several great-nephews, great-nieces, cousins; his aunt, Gladys “Elanie” (Eaves) Stuart of Virginia; and his lifelong best friend, Tyrone Dawkins. For those wishing to honor Tony, a donation to the Utica Public Library would be greatly appreciated. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 30, 2023 from 11:00-12:00 p.m. at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Tony’s Home Going Service and Celebration of Life will commence at 12:00 p.m. immediately upon conclusion of visitation officiated by Rev. Sharon Baugh of Hope Chapel AME Zion Church. Interment will take place in Forest Hill Cemetery.
