Mr. Charles A. "Charlie" Lanza

Mr. Charles A. “Charlie” Lanza, age 67, passed away on Monday, July 27, 2015 at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center with his loving family at his side. Born in Utica on May 25, 1948, Charles was the son of the late Isador J. “Izzy” and Marie C. “Mizzy” (Giacovelli) Lanza. He was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School/Class of 1968. Charlie worked in his career as a machinist for 30 years. He honored the love and respect of his family and friends who were the focus of his existence. Charlie was generous and very giving of himself, never looking for anything in return. As an outdoorsman, he loved hunting, fishing, and spending quality time with his family at their camp in Lake Pleasant, NY. He was passionate about the sport of golf and was a member of many leagues. He was a parishioner of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Charles is survived by his beloved sister and brother-in-law, Florence and Frank Gohringer of Utica; his cherished niece and nephews, Correne and Jason Holmes, and Eric Gohringer; and had a special place in his heart for his great niece and nephews, Madison, and Nathan Holmes; Eric Jr., and Evan Gohringer; his uncle and aunt Philip and Elizabeth Giacovelli; and his beloved cousins too numerous to mention. Charlie was fortunate to have lifelong friends with whom he maintained such a closeness throughout his lifetime until the day of his passing, James Caruso, Eli Zogby, Santo Tomaino, Al Forte, and Bill Willett. For some of us we are gifted with the love, respect, and friendship of a person who could be considered a brother, mentor, and cousin as well, and for Charlie that was Charles Beno. His devotion and support throughout the years was unconditional and steadfast especially during his illness. He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Charles and Florence Lanza; and his maternal grandparents, Anthony A. and Mary Giacovelli. The family extends heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Atul Butala and the nursing staff at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center 6th Floor for the exceptional care and comfort they provided during this difficult time. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Charles’ funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Wednesday August 5th at 12:00 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish where his Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. James Cesta. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of Mass. Inurnment will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
