Mrs. Catherine D. "Kate" (Potenza) Graziadei

Mrs. Catherine D. “Kate” (Potenza) Graziadei, age 99, passed away on Friday, October 4, 2013 at the Katherine Luther Residential Health Care Center surrounded with the love and comfort of her family. Born in Century, WV, on February 23, 1914, Kate was the daughter of the late Vito and Serafina (Dell’Erba) Potenza. Thereafter, she was raised and educated in Utica. On June 2, 1934, Catherine married Rocco C. Graziadei and they shared a loving and devoted union until Rocco’s passing on April 28, 1986. For over 18 years, Mrs. Graziadei was employed at the General Electric Company’s Bleecker Street plant. A very spiritual person, Kate was dedicated to her church and practiced her faith on a daily basis. She was active in many church activities and organizations including the St. Cosmo and Damian Society, and the Altar Rosary and Sacred Heart societies. For over 20 years, Kate was a volunteer receptionist at St. Anthony of Padua Church. Kate’s family is forever appreciative of the love, concern, and devotion she bestowed on them; in addition, they always marveled at her strength of character. Catherine’s Italian delicacies were the foundation of family holiday meals and her nurturing benevolence will forever be the source of countless wonderful memories. Catherine is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Carmella M. Teti of Naples, FL and the cherished memory of her son-in-law, Nicholas J. Teti, Jr., who passed away in 1990; and Sara Jean and Dominick Pepe of New Hartford; her son and daughter-in-law, Carl A. and Jo Ellen Graziadei of Mentor, OH; her cherished grandchildren, Michael Teti of WV, Nicholas J. Teti, III of Atlanta, GA, Stephen and Jackie Teti of New Hartford, Terese M. and Steven Livermore of Rome, Christopher and Sherita Teti of Orlando, FL, Nicole Kimball of Naples, FL; Gina M. and Pat Baird of VA, David A. and Brenda Pepe of Ithaca; Carla and Len Cech of MI, Dana Graziadei of MI, Stephanie Kellner of Mentor, OH, and Joseph and Starshine Graziadei of Mentor, OH; 25 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Also left to mourn her passing are her sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Sebastian “Buster” DiCesare of New Hartford; a brother, John Potenza of Syracuse; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and in-law, Jody Potenza of Rochester. Mrs. Graziadei was predeceased by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Ida Rose and Peter DeCarlo, Sr., Palma “Polly” and Raymond Zangrilli, Jr., Nancy Potenza, Rose D. and Joseph D. Fiore; and her brothers and sisters-in-law, Abbate “Pat” Potenza, Stephen and Mary Potenza, and Dominick and Ann Potenza. The family extends their deepest appreciation to the staff of the Valley Crest Unit at the Katherine Luther Residential Health Care Facility, and to Father Mark Kaminski and Deacon Bill Dischiavo for their spiritual care and guidance. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4-7 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Expressions of sympathy in the form of donations in lieu of floral offerings may be considered to St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Catherine’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Wednesday afternoon at 12:00 from the funeral home and at 1:00 at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Mark Kaminski. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
