Caroline R. "Carrie" DeRocco

Caroline R. “Carrie” DeRocco, age 93, passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2013 at the Mulberry House of the Charles T. Sitrin Health Care Center. Born in Utica on February, 9 1920, Caroline was the daughter of the late Marco and Carmella (Ceclia) DeRocco. Raised and educated locally, she was a 1939 graduate of T.R. Proctor High School and the Utica School of Beauty Culture, which added a dimension of sophistication and style to her education. Carrie worked at the General Electric Company/Radio Receiver Plant on Broad Street where she aspired to the position of Inspector, retiring in 1985. A humble, nurturing woman, Carrie was dedicated in her role as caregiver for her mother. She lived by the philosophy of “good family, good friends, and a good steak”, and she maintained a positive attitude throughout her long life. She enjoyed reading the daily newspaper, tidying her house, and most importantly, keeping her mind active. She was also a well-versed Yankees fan. She had fond memories of traveling to many places with her work friends, especially her trip to Italy. She was deeply spiritual in her heart and was a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Carrie is survived by her nieces and nephews, Armand, Jr. and Joanne DeRocco, and Regina and Michael Doti; her great-nieces and great-nephews, Mark and Linda (Pfisterer) DeRocco, and Joan Marie DeRocco; and her sister-in-law, Theresa “Terry” DeRocco of CA. She was predeceased by her sister, Alba DeRocco; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Lucian and Rose DeRocco, and Armand DeRocco, Sr. and his 1st wife, Lucretia (Monaco) DeRocco; and her great-nephew, Allen A. Bechy. The family accords great appreciation to the nurses and staff of the Mulberry House at the Charles T. Sitrin Health Care Center for the loving care rendered to Carrie during her stay. The family will honor and commemorate Carrie’s life at a private gathering. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Monday morning at 11:00 on July 15th at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. James Cesta. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the Mass. By family request, please omit flowers. Committal service will take place graveside at Calvary Cemetery with Interment to follow.
