Ms. Carol Ann "Nana" Medley

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” -II Timothy 4:7 UTICA – Ms. Carol Ann “Nana” Medley, age 81, originally of Beacon, NY, was called home on Sunday, May 15, 2022. Carol was born on June 25, 1940, to the late Thomas and Mildred (Washington) Medley. Carol was born and educated in Beacon, NY, a graduate of Beacon High School/Class of 1958. She was active in sports such as basketball and baseball, and was a member of the “Brockway Lassies.” Carol was an avid bowler as she was a league member, and she even became one of the top women bowlers in the Dutchess County area! Although she grew up in St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Beacon, NY, (where she was a trusted member for years) she came to love gospel music. Carol didn’t have one special song, but would shake her head, clap her hands, and stomp her feet whenever she heard her daughter play her gospel music—it always made her smile! These memories will last for years to come. Carol worked as an Executive Assistant for Kraft Foods in White Plains, NY, for 40-plus years, from which she eventually retired. She then moved to Utica in August of 2009 to be with her daughter and grandchildren. Although retired, Carol became a “Foster Grandparent” under the umbrella of MVCAA and began working at the North Utica Senior Center. There she worked with the all-day and after-school class children, with whom she immediately fell in love. She called them “her babies” and her eyes would light up when she spoke about them. This was one of the greatest joys of her life. “Grandma” will truly be missed. As a mother, Carol was admired for her determination, ambition, loyalty, spit-fire nature, and sometimes sharp tongue. “Nana” was intuitive, always knowing when the grandchildren needed to talk and was eager to share her wisdom and candid honesty. Additionally, she cooked for them in abundance and wanted them around as much as possible. The great-grands knew her as a teacher—reading time with her was precious. A Wheel of Fortune addict, Carol was actually a contestant on the Wheel of Fortune in 1991! She won a substantial bounty with her luck. Carol’s greatest joy, having a family, taught her the rewards of life through those relationships. A woman of faith through all her years, Carol currently attended Redeemer Church. Carol was predeceased by her mother and father, Mildred and Thomas Medley; beloved son, Brian Medley; brothers, Ronald Medley, and Gary Medley; her uncle, Andrew Washington; and her two sisters of the heart, Dorothy “Gene” Paulin, and Henrietta “Hank” Smith. Carol leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, DellaReese Medley; her sons and daughter-in-law, Mark and Michelle Medley, and Christopher Medley; brother, Shawn Medley and his companion Bobby; sister, Candace Medley and her late husband Thomas; her grandsons, Julian Bostick, Dion Medley, and Christopher Medley, Jr.; her granddaughters, Jasmine Bostick, Mikayla Medley, and Christie Medley; her great-grands, Kyrie Bostick, Amari Brown, Arianna Freeman, Alaya Medley, Javante Carrington, and Chase Medley; her four additional sisters of the heart, Martha Carrington, Cookie Newton, Maddie Slade, and Betty McBride; and a host of nieces and nephews and family and friends, including great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. A special thank you is extended by the Medley Family to Dr. Afsar Khan, Carol’s physician who showed support during important decisions. Further gratitude is extended to the doctors, nurses, and staff of the ICU at MVHS St. Luke’s Campus for the compassion shown to Carol and her family. The outpouring of support from close and dear friends have been of the greatest comfort. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, from 11:00 to 12:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Carol’s Home Going Service and Celebration of Life will commence immediately upon the conclusion of visitation at the funeral home. The family welcomes all to attend a Repass Gathering at the North Utica Senior Center, 50 Riverside Dr., Utica 13502 upon the conclusion of funeral services.
