Mrs. Carol M. (Greco) McMullen

UTICA - Carol M. (Greco) McMullen, age 85, passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2019 and was reunited with those who have gone before her, awaiting her arrival. Her passing occurred at the Masonic Care Community with those she loved the most in her heart. Born in Utica on February 1, 1934, Carol was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mabel (Withers) Greco. Raised and educated locally, she attended Utica Free Academy. A hard worker, Carol was employed by Smith’s Laundry for many years, until its closing. In her retirement years, she worked at the Neighborhood Center and the Cornhill Senior Center. If you knew Carol, you would certainly cherish her fine nature and forward personality. Carol participated in conversations, and no matter what the topic was, she always added her personal comments. She was independent and forthright in the way she lived her life. When her health failed, she remained steadfast and was cared for by her family who encouraged her to go on. She always remembered her grandchildren and was so proud of them. She was thought of as their second mother. On the light side, Carol could cuss everyone out without running out of breath, and after that, her Italian side would kick in when she folded her fist and exclaimed “Momma Mia”! Carol walked everywhere and ran through every pair of her shoes. A good cook and baker, she held on to time-honored recipes and freely shared them. She made chocolate cookies for David, Jr. and pies for the holidays. She was mainly a homebody, but Sundays were her grocery shopping days. She was of the era where you never missed the local news followed by the national news. Her Saturday night entertainment was the Lawrence Welk Show, and her other favorites were Hee Haw, Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley, I Love Lucy, and especially Wheel of Fortune that she watched with a big bowl of popcorn by her side. Saturday night was also ‘pizza night’, and if it wasn’t homemade, it was ordered from Rosario’s Pizzeria on Welsh Bush Road. She was a cat lover and had several that she treated like family. During her stay at the Masonic Home, Carol had the benefit of a benevolent group of caregivers who were in tune to who she was and helped her to live a good life. Carol is survived by her children, Michael McMullen, Irene Nichols, and David Nichols and fiancée Jennifer Morelle. Always close to her heart was the memory of her daughter Sharon McMullen who preceded her. She also leaves her grandchildren, Amanda, Shayla, Donnell, Najaeh’, Jonaeh, part of her was forever changed when she lost her grandsons David E. Jr., and Deon A. Jr.; Andre, twins Shania and Maria, 12 great-grandchildren; her brother, Dr. Alan J. Greco; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins; and her grand-dog and canine companion, “Chulo”. She was preceded by her siblings, Charles V. Greco, and John J. and Marie Greco; and many dear and faithful friends. The family extends their appreciation to the staff of MVHS at St. Luke’s Healthcare Center for the professional care provided to Carol; and the personnel of the Masonic Care Community/Troy Household for their kindness and compassion in catering to her needs and wants. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 11:30-1:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Carol’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 at the funeral home immediately upon conclusion of visitation. Interment will follow graveside at Forest Hill Cemetery.
