Mrs. Carmella "Cora" (Scalzo) Nasto

Mrs. Carmella “Cora” (Scalzo) Nasto, age 85, passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2016 at the Lutheran Home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Utica on August 4, 1931, Carmella was the daughter of the late Anthony and Maria Fortunata (Pingitore) Scalzo. She was raised and educated locally. On November 11, 1950 she married Michael A. Nasto, Sr. with whom she shared 35 years in a marriage blessed with love. Michael passed away on August 3, 1986. At one time, Cora held a position with the General Electric Company at the Radio Receiver Plant, and later at the Joseph & Feiss Company. She was lastly employed at the Doyle-Knower apparel shop for over 35 years, the position from which she retired. She was a member of the ARC and the Moose Lodge. She practiced her Catholic faith at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church. Beloved by many, Cora will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother — a woman who worked hard all her life,… for those she loved with all her heart. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Michael, Jr. and Margaret Nasto of Whitesboro. Cora held close to her heart the memory of her daughter, Debbie A. Nasto, who passed away on January 2, 2013. She also leaves her grandchildren, Laura and Joseph Weaver of New York Mills, and Kathryn Nasto of the Bronx; and her sister, Sara Pezzulo. She also leaves her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Antoinette and Austin Giordano; Rose A. and Augustine Zegarelli, and Theresa and William “Bill” Ransom; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Peter and Grace Scalzo, Sam and Mafalda Scalzo, and Frank and Sara Scalzo; and her brother-in-law, Michael N. Pezzulo. The family is grateful to the compassionate nurses and staff at the Bryant Unit at the Lutheran Home for the loving care they provided to Cora during her residence. The family will honor and commemorate Cora’s life in a private gathering. Those wishing to express an act of kindness in Carmella’s memory may make a contribution to the ARC/Oneida-Lewis Chapter which provides advocacy and services for people with disabilities, at The Arc/Administration Building. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
