Carmella E. (Nassimos) Berg

Mrs. Carmella E. (Nassimos) Berg, of Newport Beach, CA and formerly of Utica and New Hartford, passed away on Wednesday December 3, 2014 in Newport Beach, CA. Carmella was born and raised in Utica, the daughter of the late Fathulla “Frank” and Fannia (Affifi) Nassimos. She graduated from Thomas R. Proctor High School and on April 30, 1960 she married Robert J. Berg at St. Basil’s Melkite Catholic Church in Utica. She worked as a secretary at the Chicago Pneumatic Tool Company and at General Electric. She and her husband retired 5 years ago to Newport Beach, CA and enjoyed the beach life and spending time with their niece, nephew, and friends. Carmella will be remembered for her cheerful and friendly manner, witty jokes, beautiful soprano singing voice, and her loyalty to family and friends. Her hobbies included cooking, reading, gardening, traveling, travel journaling, and watching her favorite TV show, “Everybody Loves Raymond”. Carmella was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church in New Hartford and was active in their Senior and Funeral Choirs for many years. She also did volunteer work for various organizations. Carmella is survived by her husband, Robert; her daughter and son-in-law, Judith and James Lee; her son, Joseph Berg of Utica; and her grandchildren, Jennifer Lee and Jonathan Lee of Orlando, FL. She also leaves her sister-in-law, Paula Nassimos, of Whitesboro; her nieces and nephews, Patricia and Steven Gray of CA, Sharon and Joseph Nassimos of Whitesboro, Samuel Nassimos, Jr. of Utica, Anthony Nassimos of CT, George Nassimos of Palm Springs, CA, Eric Skachenko of CA, John Belive of MA; her special cousins, Julie, and Mary Nassimos; and many other cousins in the Utica area. She was preceded in death by her siblings Julia, Anthony, Joseph, Sarah, Angeline, Samuel, and Margaret. Memorial Services will be held in Newport Beach, CA on Sunday (today) at St. John Vianney Chapel, in Balboa Island in Newport Beach. Locally, visitation will be held Sunday, December 28th from 1:00-4:00 PM at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave., Utica. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial contribution in Carmella’s name to The American Heart Association, the Alzheimer’s Association, or the Resource Center For Independent Living, 409 Columbia Street, Utica, NY, 13502; envelopes will also be available at the funeral home. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Carmella’s Mass of Resurrection which will be held on Monday, December 29th, at 10:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Church in New Harford. Immediately following the church services, family and friends are invited to attend Carmella’s Celebration of Life Luncheon at 12:00 noon at Ventura’s Italian Restaurant in Utica. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
