Mrs. Carmelita A. "Carm" (DeSantis) Zutter

UTICA - Mrs. Carmelita A. “Carm” (DeSantis) Zutter, age 58, passed away on Friday, June 1, 2018 in the comfort of her home with her loving family by her side. Born on January 6, 1960, Carmelita was the daughter of Alfonse “Al” and Kathleen “Kay” (Guido) DeSantis. Carm was a graduate of Notre Dame High School in 1978, where she met her beloved husband. On August 1, 1981 she married Joseph Zutter, with whom she shared 36 years. They loved and supported one another, and were blessed with an unbreakable bond until the very end. Her husband, sons, and grandchildren were her life. She was a loving and proud mom, who would do anything for her kids and lived her life through them. When the grandchildren came, she greeted them with open arms and knew how to share their excitement and show her love. Carm worked as the Office Secretary for her parents’ business, DeSantis Door Sales & Services Company and was also a sales associate at Macy’s. Carm was one who made an impact on everyone she touched. She was graced with an outgoing personality and took things in stride. Her cheerful, kind and heartfelt hospitality gave a warm welcome to family, friends, and visitors. Holidays and get togethers at Carm’s were the best when everyone gathered to share in the fun, food, and festivities. If you close your eyes and think of Carm, you would see a smile on her face and hear a laugh in her voice. She had a purpose and passion in life, and she moved forward with hope and faith. She was a humble soul and she was easy to please. The little things in life were enough. Carmelita is survived by her husband, Joe; her sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph, Jr. and Erin Zutter; Dr. Matthew and Dr. Morgan Zutter; and David M. Zutter and Christina Meola; her family canine and companion, “Snickers”, to whom she was equally devoted; her adored and beloved grandchildren, Isabella; and Bryce; her parents, Al and Kathleen “Kay” (Guido) DeSantis; and her sister and brother-in-law, Mary Rose and Michael Cerminaro. She will also remain in the hearts of mother-in-law, Victoria “Vicki” Zutter; her nephews, Alec, Russell, and Marcus Cerminaro; aunt, Janice Caravaglio; cousins, Mary Frances and Michael Bohan, Steven and Laurie Caravaglio; Mariangela and Dr. Michael Coriale, Rocco and Corinne Leone, and Patricia and Craig Klein; in-laws, Paul and Linda Zutter; and her best friend ever, Francine Sansone. She was predeceased by her grandparents, Guiseppe and Carmella DeSantis, and Salvatore and Mary Guido; father-in-law, Walter Zutter; and aunts and uncles, Marilyn and Pasquale Leone, and Francis Caravaglio. A special thanks to Francine Sansone for her love and devotion to her best friend and her family. The family is also grateful to Dr. Adham Jurdi and his staff at Upstate Medical Center, Dr. Riyaz Bashir at Temple University Hospital, the personnel of Nascentia Health and Hospice & Palliative Care. The prayers and support of Fr. Salerno, Fr. Cesta and this community were also greatly appreciated. Visitation will be held Monday from 4:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. The family will remain until all visitors have been seen. Carmelita’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Tuesday morning at 10:30 from the funeral home and at 11:30 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by longtime family friend Rev. Joseph Salerno, and Rev. James Cesta. Entombment will follow in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.
