Carmelita Dolores (Salerno) Gerrer

Mrs. Carmelita Dolores (Salerno) Gerrer, age 77, passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at the Upstate Medical University with her loving family by her side. Born in Utica on September 19, 1937, Carmelita was the daughter of the late John A. Salerno and Rose (Coromato) Salerno Carlo. Carmelita was also blessed with the guidance of her step-father Sam A. Carlo. She was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School. At one time, she was married to the late Bernard Gerrer. Carmelita enjoyed a lengthy career in the food service industry. She worked as a waitress and hostess at various banquet facilities, fine restaurants, local eating establishments, and most notably at Lillian’s After Hours on Bleecker Street. Carmelita was a devoted mother and nothing meant more to her than her loved ones. She was a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Carmelita is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Duamel DeTraglia of E. Syracuse; her sons and daughters-in-law, Bernard and Donna M. Gerrer of Ballston Lake, David and Pam Gerrer of Deerfield, and Craig and Maria Gerrer of N. Utica; her grandchildren, Anthony Sanchez, Jose Sanchez; Nicholas Gerrer, Ben Gerrer; Shelbey Gerrer; Nicole Gerrer, Taylor Gerrer, and Joseph Gerrer; and her great granddaughter, Genivev Rose Sanchez. She will also be missed by her brother, Richard A. Salerno of FL, her uncle and aunt, Frank and Wanda Salerno; her many many cousins; and her friends, Robert and Palma Nole, and their family, the Siuta family, Gigi Sykes, Tom and Flo DeSimone, and Joanne Fanelli. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2:00-5:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. In lieu of floral offerings, those wishing to express an act of kindness may make a donation in Carmelita’s name to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Carmelita’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Monday morning at 9:00 from the funeral home and at 10:00 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. James Cesta. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
