Mr. Carlton Douglas Mims

UTICA - Mr. Carlton Douglas Mims, age 59, passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center with his loving family by his side. Born in Utica on September 26, 1958, Carlton was the son of the late Hosea, Sr. and Henrietta (Murphy) Mims. Raised and educated locally, he was a graduate of Utica Free Academy/Class of 1976. He furthered his studies in construction and home remodeling. On September 22, 1983, in Jamaica, he married the former Leite Lewis with whom he shared 34 years in a union blessed with happiness and harmony. Carlton worked as a Laundry Supervisor for the State of New York Department of Corrections, the position from which he retired in September of 2015 after 37 years of service. Carlton was a loving, supportive husband, father, and a great provider for his family. He was one of Jehovah’s witnesses in the Utica Central congregation for many years. He was a beloved member of his family and his congregation. His helpful manner and sense of humor will be truly missed. Carlton is survived by his wife, Leite; his daughters and son-in-law, Sorena Mims, and Amelia and Jimmy Zephyr; and a host of siblings and their spouses: Rita Allen, Rosalind Smith, Lythel Mims, Michael Mims, Erica Mims, Malcolm Mims, Henrietta Cubbage, Henry Mims, Latha Mims, Lemuel and Joan Mims, Phillip and Michelle Mims, and Virgil Mims. He also leaves his nieces, nephews, especially acknowledging Keenan Cubbage, Kameron Cubbage, and KeShahna Cubbage; great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, many in-laws, aunts, uncles, and friends, including Joey Washington. He was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law, Hosea Jr. and Diane Mims; and his sisters, Dorinda Mims, Loretta Mims, and Renee Mims. The family extends their gratitude to the Emergency Room staff of the St. Elizabeth Medical Center for their care and compassion; and the many friends at Central Congregation for their love and support. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 3:00-6:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Memorial Talk in commemoration of Carlton’s life which will commence on Friday at 12:00 noon at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 585 Trenton Road, Utica, NY. Minister Marcel Bembry will officiate the service. Interment will take place in New Forest Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
