Carl Anthony Jackson

Mr. Carl Anthony “CJ” Jackson, age 58, departed this world unexpectedly on Friday, May 22, 2026, due to a devastating fire. Born in Trenton, New Jersey, on August 7, 1967, Carl was the son of the late Carle E. Cunningham and Martha A. (Jackson) Morris. Along with his mother, Carl relocated to Utica, residing at 307 Blandina St., where he grew up around Jweid’s Store. Carl was educated in Utica and graduated from Utica Free Academy (UFA). Following his education, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served his country at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. A selfless man, Carl loved his family and friends deeply. He was always watching sports and was a true sports fanatic. A die-hard New York Yankees and Dallas Cowboys fan, Carl especially idolized Tony Dorsett. He was comedic at heart, with his wonderful sense of humor. He just loved to laugh. Among family and friends, he was famous for his “Jack Mac.” Adventurous by nature, Carl loved to fish, especially deep-sea fishing. He also enjoyed sitting with friends and loved ones, reminiscing about days of the past. Carl leaves to mourn his beloved mother, Martha A. Morris of Utica, NY; sister, Vanetta Jackson of Baltimore, MD; nephew, Octavius Gilbert and nieces, Keana (Chajuan) Simmons and Ockeya Gilbert, all of Baltimore, MD; niece, Kylee Brooks of Utica, NY; great-nieces, Janiyah, Amira and Naila, all of Baltimore, MD; god sister, Ashley Cannon of Columbus, GA; “true brothers,” Mark Brooks and Donny Sims of Utica, NY and a great multitude of family and friends. He also leaves dear friends, Michael Johnson, Chris Billins, Nick Jones, Sean “Pop” Bradshaw and Kristen Rex, all of Utica, NY. Carl was predeceased by his grandmother, Edwina Jackson; uncles and aunts, Curtis and Betty Davis, Charles and Julia Owens; his cherished cousin, Reginald Davis and his dear friends, Lyle Johnson, Jamar Smith, and Anthony Story. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the members of the community and many loving friends for their love, support, and thoughts during this difficult time. Visitation for reflections will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, from 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m. at St. Paul’s Baptist Church, 219 Leah St. Carl Anthony’s Home Going Service and Celebration of Life will commence at 1:00 p.m. at the church.
