Mr. Carl James Jackson

ROME - Mr. Carl James Jackson, age 56, fell asleep awaiting the resurrection when he passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2023. He was in the company of his brother-in-law, John. Born in Rochester on January 22, 1967, Carl was the beloved son of Mary Ann (Mann) Jackson and the late Sammie James Jackson. Carl attended the Buffalo School for the Deaf until he was a young adult. He was a caring and kind soul who always showed love and affection to those he was around and for those who cared for him. Though he could not hear or speak, Carl had a unique ability to communicate. If you could not sign, Carl would not hold it against you or get frustrated, instead he would find other ways to get his words across to you. He would often use hand gestures, air drawings, or sketches on paper to express himself. His gestures would start with an index finger on the chin and a pensive look to the sky as he planned his next move. Carl would always make sure to call his family to check in and tell them how his day was going. He was one of a kind and his upbeat spirit and beautiful smile were infectious. Carl adored his family, particularly his sister Tresa, who became a second mother figure in his life. A giver at heart, Carl always enjoyed buying or making gifts for those he loved. Carl liked to hang out in his gazebo and also found pleasure in playing video games. He was a fan of watching the series, Knight Rider as well as the old Bruce Lee karate movies. He also loved his laptop and would take it almost everywhere with him. On weekends when his family brought him home, they would have nice family dinners. His time was cut short, but all those who knew him are left with his love to last a lifetime and beyond. Carl is survived by his mother, Mary Ann; his sister and brother-in-law, Tresa and John Fitzgerald; and his brother, Eric Lattrell. Additionally, he leaves his siblings, Barbara Ann Taylor, Jeffrey Thomas Mann, and Sammie Jackson. He also leaves many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Carl was preceded by his maternal grandparents, Clayton and Rosanna "Doll Baby" (Mann) Warren; and his paternal grandfather, Poppo Jackson, The family will honor and commemorate his life at a private time. Memorial contributions in Carl's honor may be made to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses at www.donate.jw.org. Interment will take place in Forest Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
