Mrs. Bruna (DiTata) Femia

Mrs. Bruna (DiTata) Femia, age 84, passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2015 at The Pines at Utica with the love and support of her family by her side. Born in Amsterdam, NY on February 20, 1931, Bruna was the daughter of the late Luigi and Marianina (DeAngelis) DiTata. She was a graduate of Little Falls High School. Bruna was blessed with a natural maternal instinct and she shared a very special relationship with her siblings. She was raised in a musically talented family and still had almost perfect recall for the names and lyrics of songs from decades ago. On November 29, 1959 she was united in marriage with Joseph Femia with whom she shared 51 years prior to his passing on December 15, 2010. During her working days, Bruna was employed at a number of local businesses and later as a secretary at the Griffiss Air Force Base which led to her meeting Joe. Her main responsibility was always her family and home and she worked perseveringly to provide for them with love and generosity. Bruna’s love for her three boys was immeasurable and she extended any and all resources to support them. She upheld the traditional family values of all good mothers of her era and Bruna was most proud of instilling these values of kindness, compassion and a loving family life in her children and grandchildren. At one time, she was a parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Church. Bruna is survived by her cherished sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph and Roberta of Sherrill, Robert and Kim of Whitestown, and Steve of Utica; her adored grandchildren, Michael, Alyssa, Matthew, Jordon, Stefanie, Brandon, Steven N. and Anvenette, Holly, and Sarah; and her brother and sister-in-law, Angelo and Carol DiTata of FL. Her extended family includes in-laws, Patricia DiTata, Rose Bucciero, Veronica “Ronnie” Femia, Angie Doane and Rosemary Doane and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her brothers, Julio DiTata and Tito DiTata; and her in-laws, Marian and Dominick Mazzaferro, Felicia “Phyllis” and Dominick Tagliere, Vincent F. Sr. and Betty Jane Femia, Frank J. Femia, Rocco F. Sr. and Loretta Femia, and Edward J. Bucciero. The family extends heartfelt appreciation to the staff of The Pines at Utica, especially the Rehabilitation Department and Long-Term Care Unit personnel for the comfort and compassionate care provided to Bruna during her stay. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Bruna’s funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Saturday June 6 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Abe Esper. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of Mass. In appreciation of Bruna’s love of animals, those wishing to express an act of kindness in lieu of flowers may make a contribution to the Stevens-Swan Humane Society; envelopes will be available at the service. Bruna will be laid to rest in Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum at Holy Trinity Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
