Mr. Benedict "Ben" Carcone

Mr. Benedict “Ben” Carcone, age 95, of Utica, passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 in the comfort of his home with his loving family by his side. Born in Utica on December 16, 1915, Benedict was the son of the late Mariano and Mary (Damanda) Carcone. Raised and educated locally, he was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. A veteran of World War II, he honorably served his country in the United States Navy. On August 23, 1937 he married the former Lucretia LoConte with whom he shared 73 years; the couple shared a lifetime of mutual care and deep respect. During his working life, Ben was employed by the Griffiss Air Force Base, retiring as a Program Analyst in 1970. A strong willed, benevolent, and generous man, he ensured his family’s well being and often assisted others. He was intelligent and opinionated, and often enjoyed a good conversation concerning politics. More than anything, his grandchildren brought him much happiness. He was a savvy shopper and known to his family for being a bargain hunter. He enjoyed Sunday rides with his family, and dinner and dancing with his wife. He was a parishioner of St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church. Ben is survived by his wife, Lucretia; his daughters and sons-in-law, Rosemary and Edward Kulpa of New Hartford, Carol and Terry Dowdall of Utica, Karen Rothfuss of Utica, and Donna Erkenbeck of East Syracuse; his grandchildren, Michael Kulpa, Timothy and Denise Kulpa, Judith Kulpa, Jennifer Dowdall, Andrea and Jeff Sirianni, Garrett Erkenbeck, and Emily Erkenbeck; his great-grandchildren, Travis, Cody, Sharese, and Jacob Kulpa; Kristin, and Jamie Gahan; Amanda, and Angela Kulpa; and Jayden Sirianni; and his brother, Anthony P. Carcone of Victor, NY. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and brothers-in-law, David Conti, and Frank LoConte. He was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law, Mario “John” and Carmella Carcone; his sisters and brother-in-law, Valentine Conti, Rose M. and William V. Monopoli, Sr.; and his in-laws, Agnes LoConte, Andrew LoConte, and Ann Carcone. The family is sincerely grateful for the care and attention offered by the personnel of the Visiting Nurse Association, especially Gail, Lynn, Darlene, and John; and Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc., especially Julie, Irene, Bonnie, Sandy, Chaplain Tim, and Yvette; and Johann, and Darlene T., his personal caregivers. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Ben’s funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Saturday morning at 11:00 at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where his Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Anthony P. LaFache with Military Honors conferred by the United States Navy. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of Mass. Expressions of sympathy in the form of donations may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc. in lieu of floral offerings; envelopes will be available at the service. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South Street, corner of Hammond Ave.
