Mrs. Beatrice "Minnie" (Tanus) Sheheen

UTICA - Mrs. Beatrice “Minnie” (Tanus) Sheheen, age 84, went home to her Lord when she passed away on Monday, January 7, 2019 at MVHS at St. Luke’s Healthcare with her family by her side. Born in Mexico City, Mexico on May 21, 1934, Beatrice was the daughter of the late Joseph and Maria (Shaheen) Tanus. As a young woman, she and her sister Angela immigrated to the United States and settled in Utica with her extended family. On May 4, 1957 she married James J. Sheheen .They were blessed with a unique love for each other and for their family life. Minnie’s working life was in retail. She began at Nichols Department Store, and later worked as a cashier at Grand Union in New Hartford, followed by a position at Price Chopper. She had a steadfast work ethic and was loyal to her employers. Minnie was affectionate, welcoming, and embracing to all, and her Lebanese heritage and love for her family were seen in her cooking and baking. She was a wonderful mother and she meant everything to her children. She listened and gave comfort, and through her experience and lessons learned from life, she often shared advice and memorable stories from years past. Among her many words of wisdom were “Take your time and do your best”. Minnie had a great rapport with people, in her job, in keeping family connections, and in entertaining company. Her door was always open, Sundays and holidays especially! Minnie was a beautiful dancer, especially when she was among friends and family at the Moose Lodge and at Hafli gatherings at Church. A truly religious woman, Minnie was a parishioner of St. Louis Gonzaga Church and she loved the St. Mary’s Guild. In her later years, she watched Holy Mass daily on the Eternal World Television Network. Minnie is survived by her daughter, Rose Marie Sheheen; her sons and daughter-in-law, James “Jimmy” and Lori Sheheen, and Joseph “Joey” Sheheen. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and sister-in-law, Amelia Durante. She was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Angela and Thomas J. Mitchell; nephew, Anthony Sheheen; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Anthony and Rose Sheheen; and in-laws, Jeanette Kaminski, Minnie Betrus, Julia Ciccotti, and Raymond Sheheen, Helen Sheheen, Sam Sheheen, and Ralph Sheheen. Visitation will be held Friday from 10:00-11:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Minnie’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Friday morning at 11:00 from the funeral home and at 12:00 noon at St. Louis Gonzaga Church where her Divine Liturgy of the Faithful Departed will be offered. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery.
