Mrs. Barbara A. (Carbone) Sayles

NORTH UTICA - Mrs. Barbara A. (Carbone) Sayles, age 78, went home to the Lord and to her parents as she passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at the St. Luke’s Home with her devoted family by her side. Born in Utica on October 12, 1938, Barbara was the daughter of the late Joseph and Jean (Getz) Carbone. She also knew the love of her mother’s second husband, Walt Sypek. She was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School/Class of 1956. On August 31, 1957 she married Thomas W. “Tom” Sayles. Their lives were filled with fun and great times. They loved each other dearly and lived a wonderful life. Her Celebration of Life will be held a day prior to their 60th anniversary. Barbara worked as a Customer Sales Representative for Harron Cable, Adelphia, and Time Warner. She was employed by the company for over 25 years and remained close friends with her co-workers. Barbara was blessed with a vibrant personality and a memorable smile. Her kindness and generosity were genuine and appreciated. She lived a Catholic life in the company of caring family members and dear friends. Barbara was a loving mom and grandma, and her grandchildren have wonderful memories of her devotion and desire to make them happy. Barb and Tom loved to travel, especially to the casino. Flowers flourished in her garden under her care and her yard was decorated with calming fountains and colorful ceramic animals. She was also a talented cook and she baked cookies for all seasons. A communicant of St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church, Barbara was very involved in volunteering for parish activities, along with her husband. She offered her time to support many worthy organizations and never hesitated to help a family or friend in need. She believed in the Lord and prayed to the Blessed Mother with faith and confidence that her prayers would be answered; she was blessed in so many ways. Barbara is survived by her husband, Tom; her sons and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Sherry Sayles, and Michael Sayles and friend Cathy; her grandchildren, Kristen, James and Carrie, Melissa and Dylan; and Maria Sayles; and her great-grandchildren, Shianna, Danell, and Mia; and Vinnie. She also leaves her brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank “Sonny” and Judith Carbone, and James “Jim” and Marcia Carbone; her sister, Linda Sypek; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, aunts and uncle, Connie and George Sykes, and Helen Carbone; and in-laws, Frannie Carbone, Alice Spina, Mary Ellen Amarose, Sally and Terry Fike, Kathy and Albert Evans, Darlene Sayles and Gilsey Kasdin. She was predeceased by her brother, Eugene Carbone; and her brother-in-law, Nick A. Spina. Tom wishes to thank Dr. Naji El Khoury and his wonderful staff and the personnel of the St. Luke’s Home/Barton East who treated Barbara and her husband with much respect; Fr. Anthony LaFache for his spiritual support, prayers, and visits; and Deacon Bill Dischiavo for his many years of friendship. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Barbara’s Memorial Gathering of Life which will be held on Wednesday from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. A Memorial Service will follow on Wednesday evening at 7:00 with Rev. Anthony P. LaFache officiating. In Barbara’s memory, say a prayer, smile, and brighten someone’s day by doing a good deed.
