Mrs. Barbara A. (Callari) LoMedico

UTICA - Mrs. Barbara A. (Callari) LoMedico, age 64, passed away on Sunday, November 29, 2020 in the comfort and dignity of her home with her loving family by her side. Born in Utica on September 8, 1956, Barbara was the daughter of the late Peter B. Sr. and Frances (LaNeve) Callari. Raised and educated locally, she was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School/Class of 1974. On October 6, 1979 she married her high school sweetheart, Jack V. LoMedico with whom she shared 41 years of love and the blessing of children. Barbara worked as a Legal Secretary for Attorney William Schmidt. When her children were born, she took a leave from work to raise them, and when they reached school age, she returned to the workforce where she obtained a job with the Utica City School District in the Food Service Department. She subsequently accepted a position with the New York State Division of Parole as a secretary until her illness precluded her to continue her career. A loving, supportive matriarch, she provided for the individual needs of her family and protected her children. Working at home brought her the joy of being with her loved ones who admired her as a pillar of strength. She was also supportive of her husband’s military service which included multiple deployments overseas. Fun loving and bubbly, Barbara had a great sense of humor. She loved to travel and enjoyed visiting the casino. She was a fantastic cook and looked forward to the holidays to gather with family and celebrate with a festive feast. Many will remember and long for her savory holiday cookies. Barbara is survived by her husband, Jack; her children and their loves, Gregory LoMedico and Eric Tamanaha, Ryan LoMedico, and Matthew and Mena LoMedico; grandchildren, Michael LoMedico, and Antonio LoMedico; sister and brother-in-law, Cathy and Lyle Beane; and brother, Peter B. Callari, Jr. She also leaves her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews; cousins, especially Brittany Beane and Michael Lallier, Lyle III and Lauren Beane, Gina and Brent Vanderwood, Jamie and Ryan Critelli, Sue and Charlie Divine, Tom Spencer, Michelle and Tom Wurz, Michael Spencer, Mario LoMedico Jr., Marc LoMedico, Claudine Peters, Franky and Lisa Castardi, Jason and Angela Longo, Karla and Rob Pedulla, Nicole George, Joey and Jaime George; in-laws, Geraldine Spencer, Mario and Sharon LoMedico, Sandra and Frank Castardi, Michelle and Joe Longo, Claudette George and Rich Ajaeb; and many special friends. She was predeceased by her brother-in-law, Richard Spencer. The family is grateful to Barbara’s special caregivers, particularly Providence, Anne, Lidia, Carmen, Sherry, and Fran for the loving care and concern provided to Barbara. The family will honor and commemorate Barbara’s life at a private time. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service and Celebration of Life which will commence on Saturday at 12:00 noon at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church. Face masks covering your nose and mouth are required, and social distancing and contact tracing will be implemented. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
