Arthur R. "Art" Christiano

Mr. Arthur R. “Art” Christiano, age 90, of Utica, passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center, following a brief illness. At the time of his passing, his loving family was by his side. Born in Utica on January 1, 1926, Arthur was the son of the late Philip and Christina (Carlone) Christiano. Raised and educated locally, he was a graduate of T.R. Proctor High School. Art was proud to serve his country with honor as a United States Navy Veteran of World War II. On April 23, 1949 he married the former Anna Santa Maria with whom he shared a true and mutual devotion. For half a century, Art and Anna enjoyed each other’s love and companionship prior to Anna’s passing on July 17, 1999. Upon their marriage, Art enrolled at M.V.C.C. where he received a degree in Drafting. A welder by trade, Art held positions with the Bossert Manufacturing Company, the Bendix Corporation, and the International Heater Company, the position from which he retired. A loving husband and father, Art’s soft and loving presence was always evidence of a warm and welcoming heart. A devoted family man, he felt blessed being in the company of his loved ones, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He honored the holidays, decorated for Christmas, and gathered with family for the traditional Italian Christmas Eve feast. Art was also a handyman and an accomplished carpenter. He enjoyed golfing and bowling up until his later years. He treasured the memories of the trips taken with his beloved wife Anna. A parishioner of St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church, Art participated in parish events. Arthur is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Diana E. and Anthony “Tony” Talerico of New Hartford, and Arlene and Fred Pumilio of Frankfort; his grandchildren, Dana and Greg Garner, Andrea Talerico, and Matthew Talerico; Renee and James Hartnett, Joseph Perrone, and Michael Perrone; his great-grandchildren, Ella Marie Garner, Nathan Garner; Lily Anastasia Mazzochi; Sophia Rae Perrone, and James Hartnett. He will also be remembered by his sister and brother-in-law, Theresa and William Simonik of N. Utica; and sisters-in-law, Fannie Christiano, and Josephine Santa Maria; his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his infant brother, John Christiano; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Joseph Christiano, Louis and Grace Christiano, and Angelo and Marie Christiano; his sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Dominick Greco; his godchild and niece, Mimi Arcuri; and his great-nephew, Joseph Dardano. The family would like to thank the staff of the Masonic Care Community, the ICU Unit, and the 3rd floor of the Alan Calder Wing at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Center for their compassion and understanding in the caring of Art during his stay. " Visitation will be held Sunday from 3:00-6:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Arthur’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Monday morning at 9:30 from the funeral home and at 10:30 at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where his Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Mark Kaminski with Military Honors conferred by the United States Navy. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
