Mrs. Antoinette (Chanatry) Murad

Mrs. Antoinette (Chanatry) Murad went home to her Lord as she passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center with her loving family by her side. Born in Utica, Antoinette was the daughter of the late Michael and Ameena (Makames) Chanatry. Raised and educated locally, she was a graduate of Utica Catholic Academy with High Honors and went on to graduate from the Utica School of Commerce. During World War II, Antoinette volunteered and was honored and proud to be a member of a group of caregivers known as the “Grey Ladies” who aided wounded soldiers at Rhoades Hospital. On August 10, 1950 Antoinette married Alexander E. Murad, it was a loving relationship that endured 66 years. Antoinette was involved with the family business, Chanatry Brothers Supermarket, but for the majority of her working years she was employed by the New York Telephone Company as an Executive Secretary to the Manager of the Building Departments, a position she excelled at and enjoyed until her retirement in 1985. She was an all-inclusive person, one who was loved, expressed much love, and was truly admired. A devoted aunt, she was a friend, confidant, and a second mom to her nieces and nephews. She was an outstanding writer and poet, always overseeing her family’s ancestry and legacy. She was a faithful communicant of St. Basil’s Melkite Catholic Church and an active participant in numerous organizations in the parish throughout the years. Antoinette is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Alex; her brother and sisters-in-law, William “Bill” and Janet Chanatry, and Teresa Chanatry; and sister in-law and brother in-law Antoinette and Joseph Flint. She was a cherished aunt to many nieces and nephews, Danyse Fusco, Dr. Michael Chanatry, Edward Chanatry, Rosanne Fallon, Mary Lou Boyer, and John Chanatry; Gregory M. Murad/Esq., George C. Murad/Esq., Frederick W. Murad/Esq., Anthony A. Murad/Esq.; Louis Chanatry, Dr. Brian Chanatry, Martha Goldense, David Chanatry, Nadine Dye and Mary Mullroy; Michael G. Chanatry; Ameena Copeland, Joanne Tehan, Michael Chanatry, Robert Chanatry, and Mark Chanatry; Louis T. Brindisi/Esq.; John L. Murad, Jr./Esq., Hon. David Murad, Kirk Murad, Joseph Murad, Jeffrey Murad, and Julie Murad; George Kazanjian, Miriam Kazanjian and John Kazanjian; Jill Flint, Joseph Flint Jr. and JoAnne Ambrose; Vincent Singe Jr., and Thomas Singe, as well as all of their spouses and children; many great-nieces and nephews, especially acknowledging Andrew Brindisi, Mary Chris, Rose Ann Voce, Anthony Brindisi; Anthony A. Murad, Jr., Maria Blais, Francesca Murad, Michelle Murad, Andrew M. Murad, and Bill Horton, great-great nieces and nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her sisters and brother-in-law, Nellie S. Chanatry, and Mary and Anthony F. Murad; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Edward and Mary Chanatry, Louis Chanatry, Dr. Joseph and Elizabeth Chanatry, and Col. Fred Chanatry; and her in-laws, Honorable John and Patricia Murad, Mary and Angelo Brindisi, George Murad, Jenny and Vincent Singe, and Nellie and George Kazanjian; and her niece, Annette Carol Brindisi. The family offers sincere thanks to the physicians and nurses at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Dr. Amy Gorczynski, Dr. Atul Butala, and the staff of the Regional Cancer Center for their professional care; Fr. Saba Shofany for his friendship, and Fr. Anthony LaFache for his spiritual solace. Special thanks is extended to Antoinette’s nieces, Lenora Murad, and Danyse Fusco for their tender care, and Mary Lou Boyer for her professional assistance in a time of need. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. The family will remain until all have been seen. Those wishing to express an act of kindness may consider a contribution to a charity close to the Murad family’s heart, The Covenant House, an organization dedicated to opening doors for homeless youth. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Antoinette’s funeral service will commence on Thursday morning at 10:00 from the funeral home and at 11:00 at Saint Basil’s Melkite Catholic Church where her funeral service will be celebrated by Rev. Saba Shofany. Committal prayers will be held at Calvary Cemetery Chapel with Entombment in Christ Our Savior Mausoleum at Calvary Cemetery.
