Anthony "Tony" Zegarelli, Sr.

Mr. Anthony “Tony” Zegarelli, Sr., age 80, of Utica, passed away on Monday, December 22, 2008 at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center. Born in Utica on June 28, 1928, Anthony was the son of the late Joseph and Grace (Fraccola) Zegarelli. He was raised and educated locally. On June 28, 1952 he was joined in marriage with the former Patricia “Pat” Lloyd with whom he shared 46 years in a union of mutual dedication and commitment to family. At one time, Tony was a self-employed contractor. He was an avid bowler and a member of the Masonic Lodge. Tony was of the Catholic faith. Tony is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Kathleen Dousharm of Barneveld, and Grace Ann and Ed LaManque of New York Mills. Always close to his heart was the memory of his daughter, Patricia A. “Patty” Zegarelli, who passed away on December 15, 2003. In addition, he leaves his sons and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Sandra Zegarelli of Clinton, and Anthony “Ziggy” Zegarelli, Jr. and fiancée Sandra of Frankfort. Cherished in his heart was the memory of his grandson Gerald LaManque who preceded him in death. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Survivors also include his sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Carmen Alfano of Sauquoit; his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and in-laws, Margaret and William Cianciola of Syracuse, and Rita Edwards of Utica; his godson, Thomas Guidera, Jr.; and his friend, Ruth Gaudin. He was predeceased by his sisters, Frances Dunn, and Anna Marie Merchant. The family wishes to thank the entire staff of the Masonic Care Community of NY, especially Mary Ann and Nancy, for the care and compassion given to Tony during his stay. In addition, a special thanks is offered to the entire staff of Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center, especially acknowledging the ICU. In keeping with Anthony’s wishes, there will be no public visitation. By family request, please omit floral offerings. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated on Wednesday morning at 10:30 at St. Anthony of Padua Church. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of Mass. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
