Anthony S. Pecorello

Mr. Anthony S. Pecorello, age 83, of Utica, passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2009 at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center with the love and support of his family. Born in Utica on July 24, 1926, Anthony was the son of the late Gerardo and Rose (Lombard) Pecorello. Raised and educated locally, he was a 1944 graduate of T. R. Proctor High School. A veteran of World War II, he served his country in the U.S. Army stationed in the Asiatic/Pacific Theater of Operations. On April 7, 1951 he married the former Teresa Ciccone with whom they shared 58 years as very compatible companions in life’s journey. Anthony was employed for many years as a fork lift operator at the Chicago Pneumatic Tool Company, and subsequently worked as a postal clerk with the U.S. Postal Service, the position from which he retired. A genuine family man, Anthony honored his loved ones with his wisdom and dedication to their well being. He was a supportive and motivating father, and his years as “papa” were just as rewarding. Music was a passion in his life and a bond he shared with his wife, especially their love of opera. As an accomplished pianist, he composed musical scores and in his earlier years, he and his wife would collaborate writing lyrics and songs. At one time he performed on piano with the Jan Lambert Trio, a group that provided local entertainment. He also enjoyed traveling and searching out new places of interest to visit. He was a parishioner of the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes. Anthony is survived by his wife, Teresa; his daughters and sons-in-law, Joanne and David Barnaba of South Carolina, and Jeanette and Michael Swiderski of Sauquoit; his grandchildren, David Barnaba and fiancée Tara Ryan, Daniel Barnaba, Alexandra Barnaba; Pamela and Elvis Sypek, John Swiderski of the U.S. Airforce and his wife Cassandra, Christopher and Becca Swiderski, and Thomas Swiderski; and his great-grandchildren, Kierra and Jacob; and Tyler. Survivors also include his sister and brother-in-law, Marguerite and Michael “Nippy” Scotellaro of Utica; his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and in-laws, Kelly Pecorello, Joan Pecorello, Gloria C. Ambruso, and Ferdy and Ernest Demaris; and his longtime friends, Donald Long as well as his brothers. He was predeceased by his brothers, Gerardo “Jerry”, Sr. and Bernice Pecorello, Arthur “Art” Pecorello, and Edward P. “Coach” Pecorello; his sister and brother-in-law, Jeanette Talley-Schmidt and husband Eugene; and his in-laws, John Ciccone, Eleanor Ciccone, Louis Ciccone, and Rocco Ambruso. The family extends heartfelt appreciation to Anthony’s longtime physician, Dr. Sydney Blatt; as well as Dr. Thomas John, Dr. Ira Tisch, Dr. Charles Eldredge, Dr. Ahmad Mian, and Dr. John Cai, all of whom assisted in maintaining Anthony’s life; gratitude is also extended to the Rehabilitation Unit at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center, the Clark West unit at the St. Luke’s Home, with gracious acknowledgment of Kathy and all his caregivers for their kind and compassionate care. Visitation will be held Sunday (today) from 3-5 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Anthony’s funeral service will commence on Monday morning at 10:00 from the funeral home and at 11:00 at the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Military Honors. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
