Mr. Anthony V. Rienzo

UTICA - Mr. Anthony V. Rienzo, age 92, passed away on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center with his loving family at his side. Born in Brooklyn, NY on May 13, 1925, Anthony was the son of the late Vittorio and Michelina (Sorrentino) Rienzo. He was raised and educated in Brooklyn. On October 9, 1949 he married the former Serafina V. “Fannie” Amato with whom he shared 52 years in a loving and committed union until her passing on July 28, 2002. Sonny was the owner and operator of Rienzo’s Grocery Store located at the corner of Blandina and First Streets as well as the owner and manager of several local apartment buildings. He was honored to have his wife by his side overseeing these ventures. Sonny made a lasting impression of everyone he met and he will be remembered for his loving smile and his sincerity. He was a brilliant man, always thinking, and always honest and meticulous in his endeavors. He loved music, especially opera, and he was a gifted pianist, a talent he passed to his loved ones by teaching them to play. He also loved watching his daytime television programs. Anthony is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Maggie J. and Martin J. Marchese of Utica; his sons and daughter-in-law, Victor R. Rienzo and Victoria Agosta of Titusville FL, and Roy A. and Margaret M. Rienzo of North Utica; his grandchildren, Tatum Marchese, Ryan and Wendy Marchese, Talia Marchese and fiancé John Doti, Santina and Kelly Gordon, Serina Marchese and Nicholas Gentile, Michelina Marchese; Christopher and Katie Rienzo, Matthew and Brittnee Rienzo; Megan Rienzo, and Nicole and Gavin Law; and his great-grandchildren, Joseph “Joey” Marchese, Talan Marchese, Lily Marchese; Serafina Gentile; Nicholas Rienzo, Owen Rienzo, and Beatrice Rienzo; Arsyn Rienzo, and Matthew Rienzo II. He also leaves his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and in-laws, Vittorio and Jenny Amato of Brooklyn. He was predeceased by his daughter-in-law, Luanne Rienzo. Visitation will be held Wednesday morning from 9:00-10:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. By family request, please omit floral offerings. Anthony’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Wednesday morning at 10:00 from the funeral home and at 11:00 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish where his Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Abe Esper. Interment will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery.
