Mr. Anthony C. "Tony" McConkey

UTICA- Mr. Anthony C. “Tony” McConkey, age 71, passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2022. A native of Syracuse, he was born on June 24, 1951, to the late Bernard C. McConkey and Grace Guinto, though the family soon moved to Utica where Tony was raised. He graduated T. R. Proctor High School and later furthered his education at MVCC, where he studied nursing. He began his working life with a position at the Freidrich Heating and Refrigerator Company. Upon their closing, Tony went on to receive his R.N. He would hold positions in the ICUs at Rome Memorial Hospital and St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Throughout his many travels around the country, he also practiced nursing in Louisiana and Texas. Later on, he shared beautiful years of companionship with Claire Dillard. Always one to prioritize helping others, he was a devoted member of the Schuyler Volunteer Fire Department as an EMT. He was also full of fun, and enjoyed spending many hours riding his motorcycle. An adventurous spirit, he travelled all over the United States, always in search of a good time, with Claire by his side. As a couple, they enjoyed making many fond memories. He also was an avid New York Yankees fan, loved photography, and was an outstanding cook. But his favorite pastime was undoubtedly spending time with his precious grandchildren. Tony is survived by his children and their loves, Erin and Maurice Luck, Christopher McConkey, and Anthony and Candace McConkey. He will also be missed by his grandchildren, Destiny, Aria, and Maurice Luck. His loss will also be felt by his loving companion, Claire Dillard and her children Kate Walker and Jim Siniscarco, David and Morgan Dillard, Emily Dillard, and their children and families. He is also survived by his sisters, Francine Alam and the late Brian Charles Alam, Sr., Carol Rupley, Tina McConkey, Mary Angela Cunningham and the late William Cunningham, Kathleen McConkey; his brothers, Bernard and Amy McConkey and Nicholas McConkey; and his special friend, Sue Truax. He was predeceased by his nephew, Phil McConkey, who just recently passed. The family wishes to express gratitude to: Dr. Kaye and Dr. Dulkin for their professionalism and friendship throughout the years; the Abraham House Rome location for their exceptional end of life care; and the nurses and staff of the 2nd floor at MVHS at St. Elizabeth Medical Center for their care and compassion.
