Annette L. Hymes

UTICA – Annette Leola Hymes, age 69, peacefully entered eternal rest on September 29, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Annette was born in Rome, NY on February 4, 1955, to her beloved parents, the late Leola Coleman and Alvin Hymes, Sr. Annette was a dedicated employee of Loretto as a CNA for many years and later became an employee of the Utica City School District, serving as a cook and monitor for many years where she was respected and admired by her colleagues and students. Annette was the life of the party. She enjoyed gatherings with family and friends at her home, playing cards, watching sports, listening to music, dancing, playing Pokeno, and spending time with her great-grandchildren. She was very artistic and enjoyed arts and crafts, drawing, writing, and coloring in her free time. She was the family secretary and handled everyone’s paperwork. Her warmth, kindness, and love touched the lives of everyone who knew her. She had a beautiful soul and a heart of gold. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered. Annette is survived by her two children, James Hymes, and the late Donnel Hymes who passed away in 2016; grandchildren, Cornelous Hymes, Tonia Phillips-Hymes, Tevin Hill, Janay Hymes, Sydney Jetter, and Ayanna Hymes; 11 great-grandchildren; siblings, Shirl Ann Akinosho, predeceased Almyra Hymes, Alvin Hymes Jr., Evelyn Hymes, Dionne Hymes, Alvino Hymes, Agrippa Hymes, Musia Hymes, Andrea Hymes, Levy Hymes, Rosemary Hymes, Jerome Hymes, predeceased Clarissa Staton, Alice Coleman, Richard Coleman, Alex Coleman, and Priscilla Coleman. Annette is also survived by her nieces (favorite Latoya Hymes); nephews (favorites Anthony Staton, Ricky Turner, and Nathan, and Jaylen Taylor); her family friend Christine Mathis; and her best friend, the late Lucy Whitehurst. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the prayers, phone calls, cards, visits, and countless acts of kindness shown during the time of Annete’s passing. Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2024, from 3:00-4:00 p.m. at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Annette’s Home Going Service and Celebration of Life will commence at 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
