Mrs. Anna R. Washington

UTICA - Anna R. Washington, age 69, passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2018 at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center with her loving family by her side. Born in Utica on November 15, 1948, Anna was the daughter of the late Ida Hicks. She was raised and educated locally. Anna shared in a longtime union with Walter Washington, Sr. who passed away on January 19, 2008. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and homemaker who opened her heart and home to anyone who visited. She had a sharp sense of humor mixed with a hint of sarcasm, a side of her personality that everyone loved. She was an excellent cook, and when the aroma of her fried chicken filled the room, everyone flocked to the kitchen! Anna also loved bingo and scratch off lottery tickets. Anna is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Terrance “Terry” and Carrie Washington of Utica, Andre and Maryisa Washington of Poland. She held close to her heart the memories of her sons, Walter Washington Jr. who passed in 2005, and Preston Washington who passed in 1990. She also leaves a son, Michael Cox of Arizona; her grandchildren, Preston Washington, Brandon Washington, Chanese Wright, Terrance Washington, Jr; Andre Washington, Jr., Alexandria Washington and Trey Cummings, Dante Rosato, Connor Cowan; Shatoya Bell, Kayla Washington, Walter Washington III, and Deonna Henderson; and her 11 great-grandchildren. She will also be remembered by her nieces, nephews, including a special nephew Bernard Hicks, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, in-laws, Cleola and Earl Crawford of Deerfield, Diane Washington of Poughkeepsie, and Carolyn Matthews of Oklahoma; and three very special people, Joann Pape, Maria Echevarria, and Charlene Rivera. She was predeceased by her sister, Lois Hicks. The family extends their gratitude to the personnel of the Heritage Healthcare Center, and the staff of the St. Elizabeth Medical Center Intensive Care Unit for their care and compassion. Visitation will be held Saturday from 2:00-4:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Anna’s Home Going and Celebration of Life will commence on Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home immediately upon conclusion of visitation with Pastor David Ossenfort officiating the ceremony. Interment will take place in Forest Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
