Mrs. Anna (Marino) Gelfuso

Mrs. Anna (Marino) Gelfuso, age 94, of Utica, passed away on Monday, June 27, 2011 at the Presbyterian Home for CNY, Inc. Born in Utica on November 4, 1916, Anna was the daughter of the late Pasquale & Domenica (LaBella) Marino. She attended local schools and at one time was employed with the Utica School District and as an election inspector. She was a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church. On May 15, 1939 she married Frank “Jeff” Gelfuso with whom she shared 28 years until his passing on April 18, 1968. For many years she assisted with the operation of her husbands endeavor, Jeff’s Atlantic Service Station. She held close to her heart and cherished the memory of her beloved son, Francis J. Gelfuso who passed away in 1982 and her daughter, Madalyn Kern who passed away in 1984. In spite of this terrible loss she remained a strong and spiritual being for her remaining family & many friends. She was the youngest of nine children and lived the longest. She was a wealth of family geneology and kept her sharp mind intact to the very end. A generous woman, she enjoyed passing time with family and friends and no one left her house without some sort of crocheted gift or food. Her uncanny talent for making crafts and crocheting sweaters, blankets and her famous scrubbies were welcome gifts by all that knew her. Surviving are her son-in-law, Robert Kern of CA; daughter-in-law, Nancy Gelfuso of Sauquoit. Also surviving are her grandchildren, David & Gwendolyn Gelfuso of IL, Krista & Terry Grieb of CA, Denise Gelfuso of Waterville, Deanna & James DeFazio of New Hartford; great-grandchildren, Dominic, Angelo & Mario Gelfuso, Madalyn & Callen Grieb, Shannon & Sabrina Blunt, Shawna Gelfuso, Jimmy & Giovanna DeFazio; great-great grandson Connor Gentile. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Rose Pilawa of Syracuse; and several nieces & nephews with special mention of Francis, Heide & Patrick Marino, Angela & Roy Miller, Dr. Joseph and Laura Jo Marino, Sheryl Beausoleil, Donald Sr., Nicholas, Joseph & Linda Marino, Melanie & Mike O’Neil, Donald, Jr. & Kristine Marino, Daniel & Caroline Marino, Frank & Genevieve Santoli, MaryAnne & Bill Griffiths & Lucille Humphrey. She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters, Roscoe, Maurice, Daniel & Dr. Francis Marino, Rose Barella, Lucy Iacovino, Elizabeth DeTraglia & Antoinette DiRoberto. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Presbyterian Home, especially the Willow Wing for their personal concern and commitment to Anna. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 5-7 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Anna’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Friday morning at 9:30 from the funeral home and at 10:30 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. James Cesta. Interment will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery.
