Anna (Caiazzo) Gallo

Mrs. Anna (Caiazzo) Gallo, age 87, formerly of Utica and more recently residing in Clearwater, Florida, passed away on May 9, 2008 at home with her loving family by her side. Born in Minterno, Italy on January 15, 1921, Anna was the daughter of the late Carmen and Louisa (Palazzo)Caiazzo. She was raised and educated in Italy, and arrived in the United States and the Utica area in 1940. On October 23, 1938 she married Ernest Gallo with whom she shared 30 years in a loving and dedicated union prior to his passing on January 9, 1969. The couple was blessed with an extraordinary partnership based on mutual harmony and equality. Anna worked at various jobs including those at Oneita, UNIVAC, and the New York State office building. She “retired” at the young age of 70. A strong and intelligent woman with extremely high values, Anna was devoted to her husband and children. She considered education as a critical aspect in raising her children. She was social and caring, and always had a seat ready at her table for anyone who stopped by. As her family and friends will agree, to know her was to love her. Anna was happy in her home and her yard. She was known for her preparation of delicious cuisine, and her love of gardening. During her ‘spare time’, she pursued her delicate needle work and crochet. A vivacious woman, she took up ballroom dancing at the age of 80 and even entered into competition in Las Vegas with her daughter. She was a member of the Cornhill Senior Center and the East Side Senior Center. She was a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish in Utica and of St. Michael the Archangel in Clearwater, Fl. Anna is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Theresa (Terri) Conwell of FL, Anna Marie and Michael Foss of MA, and Noreen and William Barlow of Nepal; her son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Sharleen Gallo of Braisher Falls, NY; her grandchildren, Matthew and Elin Wicks, Aaron and Kelly Wicks, Gabrielle and Craig Estalante, Laxmi (Lizzi) and Ana Barlow, and her great-grandchildren, Madison and Elizabeth Wicks. Survivors include her sisters and brother-in-law, Tomassina and Raymond DeCecca of MA, and Asunta Granata of CT; her sister-in-law, Asunta Caiazzo of CT; and her many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and cousins. She also leaves her dear friend, Antoinette LiBritz. She was predeceased by her brothers, Ferdinando Caiazzo and Joseph Caiazzo; her son-in-law, Charles Conwell; and many in-laws. The family extends sincere appreciation to the nurses and staff of The Hospice of Florida Suncoast for their compassionate care. Visitation will be held Friday from 5-7at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South Street., corner of Hammond Ave. For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial donations in Anna’s honor to The Hospice of Florida Suncoast; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Anna’s funeral service will commence on Saturday morning at 8:30 from the funeral home and at 9:30 at St. Mary of Mt.Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery at the convenience of the family. A memorial gathering to celebrate her life will be held in Florida at a later date.
