Ann (Spano) Amarosa

Mrs. Ann (Spano) Amarosa, age 90, of Utica, passed away on Monday, July 21, 2008 at the St. Joseph Nursing Home. Born in Utica, on May 26, 1918, Ann was the daughter of the late Pietro and Josephine (Serio) Spano. She was raised here and attended local schools. On June 15, 1940 she married Anthony R. Amarosa with whom she shared a union of 59 years prior to his passing on April 29, 1999. Ann was a conscientious and dedicated homemaker who took great pride and pleasure in her family and her home. At one time she was a communicant of St. George's Roman Catholic Church and was currently a parishioner of the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes. Mrs. Amarosa is survived by a daughter, Maryann Amarosa of Utica. She always cherished in her heart the memory of her daughter, Carol Amarosa, who passed away in 1954 at the age of 12. Ann is also survived by 3 sisters and brothers-in-law, Chancy and Joseph Steffanini, Marie and William Steffanini, all of Rochester, and Dolores and Howard Bender of North Utica. In addition, her survivors include a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins; her in-laws, Mary Spano, Vera LoRocco, Annie Amarosa, and Ann Spano; and her godchild, Sister Joan Rocco O.P. She was predeceased by 3 brothers, Anthony Spano, Joseph Spano and Salvatore Spano; 3 sisters and a brother-in-law, Rose Spano, Mary Spano, and Grace and Anthony Rocco; and her in-laws, Carmen Amarosa, Louis Amarosa, Maryann and Dominick Collea, Peter LoRocco, Eugene Amarosa, Fannie Collucci and Antoinette Cittadino. The family extends sincere thanks to the staffs of the St. Joseph Nursing Home, the Lutheran Healthcare Center and to Dr. Bisham Garg for all the care and attention shown to Ann. Gratitude is also extended to the nurses and staff of Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc. for the comfort provided to Ann and her family. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4-7 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. By family request, please omit floral offerings. For those wishing to do so, memorial contributions may made to Our Lady of Grace Monastery; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Mrs. Amarosa's funeral will commence on Friday morning at 10:00 from the funeral home and at 11:00 at the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
