Ms. Anjanette Denice Buie-Hobdy

Ms. Anjanette Denice Buie-Hobdy, age 61, of Utica, entered into the eternal sunset on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center with her loving family at her side. Born in Chiefland, Florida on March 1, 1955, Anjanette was the daughter of the late Mencey (Hagans) Watkins and Philip Allen, but she also knew the love of her “father”, Nathaniel “Buster” Watkins. She was raised in Florida and Georgia and eventually relocated to Utica where she completed her secondary education and went on to M.V.C.C. where she received her license in nursing. Anjanette worked in the nursing field at the Masonic Home of Central NY for 10 years, but her true passion was making people look their best. She was an accomplished and artistic cosmetologist with an eye for creativity in her specialty of hairstyling. Anjanette was a strong, hardworking woman, and as a single mother, she was strict, but fair in raising her children. She worked till her fingers bled to provide for her family. She was straightforward in speaking her mind and she spoke it with a smile on her face that could light up a room. But it was her cherished role as a grandmother that warmed her soul. A lifelong member of The Greater Holy Temple Church, Anjanette was an Evangelist as well and was honored and proud to perform her favorite solo song, “If I Could Help Somebody”, from time to time. She lived a good life and was grateful for the graces that God granted her. She remembered her blessings each time she said “We didn’t have the world, but we had the best of it”. Anjanette is survived by her children, Gregory L. Rudolph of Auburn, NY, Katrina Rudolph of Utica, Anjanette Rudolph of Greenville, South Carolina, and James "Tre" Griffin III of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Always close to her heart was the memory of her son, David L. Rudolph III who preceded her in 2006. She also leaves her grandchildren, Demetris Rudolph, David Rudolph IV, Bonita Rudolph, Derrick Rudolph, Destiny Rudolph, Nakia LaPlante, Dubar Lofton, Dervontay Walton, William Monroe III, Lakera McMurren, Chynalee Young, Des’Menique Rudolph, Hassanah Jackson, O’neisha Jackson, Diamond Jackson, Randy Geter Jr., Tykeisha Spratt, and Nazeer LaPlante; her great-grandchildren, Jayden, Zendaya, Alia, London, and Jermiah; her sister, Evelyn Anderson of Gainesville, Florida; her brother and sister-in-law, James and Patricia Burkett of Colorado Springs; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother, Glen Allen; and Nathaniel “Buster” Watkins, who was loved as a father. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the Pines for the care they gave Anjanette during her stay; and the staff of the Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare Center, especially the Allen Calder Wing and Clive Young, for the compassion they showed towards Anjanette and her family. Visitation will be held Saturday, October 1, 2016 from 10:00-12:00 at The Greater Holy Temple Church of Jesus Christ, 1309 Howard Avenue, Utica. Anjanette’s funeral service and Home Going Celebration will commence on Saturday 12 noon at the conclusion of visitation at the Church with Evangelist Connie Williams officiating the ceremony. Interment will take place in Forest Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
