Angelo Saporito

Mr. Angelo Saporito, age 76, of Clinton, NY, passed away on Monday, September 10, 2007 in the comfort of his home with his loving family by his side. Born in the province of Messina, Sicily, Italy on September 11, 1930, Angelo was the son of the late Paolo and Rosa (Panzarotto) Saporito. He was raised and educated in Sicily, and served with the Italian Army. On April 12, 1958 in Italy, he married the former Marianna Rovereto with whom he shared a loving and devoted union of 49 years. The couple came to the United States and eventually to New Hartford where they have since resided. Angelo was a knitting mill mechanic, retiring from Waterville Knitting Mills after many years of loyal and conscientious service. A self-taught man, he was innately knowledgeable and handy. Loving, caring, and deeply devoted, Angelo was a wonderful husband and father, always there for his children. His family was the focal point of his existence. He also shared a very special relationship with his siblings, treasuring memories of many special occasions. He enjoyed gardening and raising magnificent fig trees. He was a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Church. Angelo is survived by his wife Marianna; his children and their spouses, Rosa A. Saporito; the cherished memory of his beloved daughter Adelina Knapp who passed away on January 17, 2006, and his son Aldo who passed away in 1977; Marina S. Saporito and her husband, John “Chip” Middleton of Melbourne, FL, Paolo J. and Kellie Saporito of Clark Mills, NY, and Santo S. and Cheryl Saporito of NJ; his son-in-law, Mark Knapp of Utica; and his grandchildren, Sean Saporito, Brianna Saporito, Stephanie Saporito, Tiffany Saporito, and Stephen Saporito. Also surviving are his sisters and brother-in-law, Sarina (who he adored and helped raise as a child) and Sam Barbera of Chicago, IL, and Rosa Aiello of Italy; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Aurelio and Giovanna Saporito of Italy, and Emilio and Alba Saporito of Chicago, IL; his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and in-laws, Pina and Emilio Gulino of Chicago, Tina Saporito of Italy, Irene Rovereto, and Antonio and Maria Rovereto, all of Kingston, NY. He was also predeceased by an infant daughter; and his brothers, Stefano Saporito, and Umberto Saporito. The family offers thanks to Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc. for their care and support; and the Cancer Unit at the Faxton Regional Cancer Center for their kindness and professionalism. Visitation will be held Thursday (today) from 4:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial donations in Angelo’s honor to Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc.; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Angelo’s funeral service will commence on Friday morning at 9:00 from the funeral home and at 10:00 at St. John the Evangelist Church where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place at St. Agnes Cemetery.
