Angeline "Nean" Alfano

Angeline “Nean” Alfano, age 99, formerly of South St. in Utica, passed away on Sunday, March 4, 2007, at the Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center. Born in Utica on June 8, 1907, Angeline was blessed with 99 years of life and would have enjoyed her 100th birthday on June 8, 2007. She was the daughter of the late Carmine and Angeline (DelGrande) Alfano, and was raised and educated locally. At one time, Angeline held a position at the Oneita Knitting Mills, and subsequently retired from the Hub Restaurant as a waitress. She was affectionately referred to as “Nean” by her friends and loved ones. During her leisure time, Nean loved to travel. She also enjoyed watching mysteries and classic movies on television. She was an avid bingo player and an active reader with a fondness for murder mystery novels and detective stories. She was a communicant of Historic Old St. John’s Church. Angeline is survived by her sister, Lillian S. Tomaino of Albany; her brothers and sister-in-law, Patsy Alfano of Whitesboro, and Carmen Jr. and Margaret Alfano of Sauquoit; her nieces and nephews, Lorraine A. Muller and Rick Wolslayer of Albany, Frederick and Adele Tomaino of Washington, DC, Pat and MaryLou Alfano, Jr. of Utica, Ronald and Miho Alfano of NYC, Jeannie Alfano of Utica, Donna Williams of Utica, Karen Alfano of KY, Florence and Anthony Schreck of Whitesboro, Raymond and Nancy Pecheone of Utica, Marie Corio of Utica, Jean and Frank Stancata of Florida, and Dolores Green of Chittenango; and her great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Florence and Carl Pecheone, Mary and George Hoagland, and Anna and Red Thurston; her nephew, Richard Alfano; and her in-laws, Alice Alfano, and Anthony M. Tomaino. Angeline cherished the occasions spent with family friend Rick Wolslayer who brightened her last days by capturing her on video, creating memorable video tapes. The family extends gratitude to the entire staff of the Eden Park Nursing Home and to the nurses of the 3rd floor at Faxton St.-Luke’s Healthcare Center for their care and compassion. Visitation will be held Thursday (today) from 5-7 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Angeline’s funeral will commence on Friday morning at 9:00 from the funeral home and at 10:00 at Historic Old St. John’s Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery.
