Angeline "Lil" (Annese) Paniccia

Mrs. Angeline “Lil” (Annese) Paniccia, age 91, of Utica, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 18, 2006 at the St. Joseph Nursing Home. Born in Utica on October 13, 1914, Angeline was the daughter of the late Antonio and Maria (Palmisano) Annese. She was raised here and attended local schools. On April 24, 1937 she married Frank Paniccia with whom she shared a 50-year union prior to his passing on July 23, 1987. Mrs. Paniccia was employed as an assembler at UNIVAC for more than 20 years, retiring at the time of the plant’s closing. Lil was a kind and loving woman who was admired for her caring ways. When her children began raising families of their own, she loved nothing better than welcoming all of her loved ones into her home and presenting wonderful dinners for these gatherings. She was equally as hospitable with neighbors and friends: her door was always open and she enjoyed the visits and company of all who stopped by. She was a longtime and loyal parishioner of St. Agnes Church and a devoted member of the Legion of Mary. Mrs. Paniccia is survived by 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Sue and James Hoke of Poland NY, Marlene and John Belensky of Lee Center NY, and Tonia Gail McCully of Marco Island FL; and a son and daughter-in-law, Santo “Sam” and Sandra Paniccia of Utica. She was recently preceded in death by her son-in-law, Duncan McCully who passed away on May 6, 2006. Lil’s survivors also include her grandchildren, Mary Kay Kasarda, Andrea and John Lawrence, James and Lori Hoke, David and Jill Hoke, Michael and Mary Hoke, Nadine Paniccia, Michael and MaryLynn Paniccia , Lynette and Steven Provental, Ronald Belensky, Robert Belensky, Frank McCully, Kristin McCully, and Thomas McCully; and 19 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Dominick Annese of FL; a sister-in-law, Beverly Annese of N. Utica with whom she always shared a close and devoted relationship; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins; and her in-laws, Rocco and Marian Paniccia, and Betty Paniccia. Lil was blessed with many friends throughout her life, including her longtime neighbors, and her wonderful caregivers. She was predeceased by a sister and brother-in-law, Frances “Fritz” and Anthony Masucci; a brother, Anthony Annese; and numerous in-laws of the Paniccia family. The Paniccia family will always remember with gratitude and appreciation the Carmelite Sisters and the entire staff of the St. Joseph Nursing Home, especially the personnel of the 4th floor: the loving care they shared with Lil provided her and her loved ones with great consolation and strength, and they offered their many kindnesses wholeheartedly and without hesitation. Visitation will be held today (Tuesday) from 4-7 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. For those wishing to do so, please consider memorial contributions in Lil’s honor to the St. Joseph Nursing Home or to St. Agnes Church. Mrs. Paniccia’s funeral will commence on Wednesday morning at 8:30 from the funeral home and at 9:30 at St. Agnes Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
