Mrs. Angelina "Angie" (Biasini) Asselta

Mrs. Angelina “Angie” (Biasini) Asselta, age 89, of Utica, passed away on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 8, 2011 at the Presbyterian Home for CNY, Inc. with the love and support of her family by her side. Born in Fort Plain, NY on November 27, 1921, Angelina was the daughter of the late Julio and Elisa (Costanza) Biasini. She was raised and educated in Johnstown, NY. On May 3, 1941 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Johnstown, she married Rocco A. Asselta, Sr. Their 54 year union was defined by abiding love, devotion, and commitment to one another and to their family prior to his passing on January 25, 1996. Angie worked as an assembler at the General Electric Company for 33 years. She was humble and loyal to the traditional values of her era and instilled these great principles in her children. As the matriarch of her family, she was happiest in the company of her loved ones and friends. Cooking and baking brought the greatest joy to Angie, especially when she prepared her seasonal recipes or holiday feasts as only she could do. Above all, Angie was an elegantly refined woman who always remembered others through acts of kindness and gentle encouragement. She was a communicant of St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church. Angie is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Rocco A. Jr. and Grace Asselta of Pittsburgh, PA, and Arthur Asselta of Utica; her grandchildren, Andrea and Scott Hein of Sycamore, IL, Arthur, Jr. and Jessica Asselta of Hammond, LA, Danielle Asselta of Henderson, NV, and Lauren Asselta of Utica. She cherished the memory of her grandson, Rocco D. Asselta, who passed away on January 2, 1994. She also leaves her great-grandchildren, Daniel, Sarah, Ryan Hein; Louis Gasparre, and Alexis Asselta; her sister, Amelia and Mike Myzal of Gloversville; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Julius Biasini of Amsterdam, Americole “Cole” and Joan Biasini of Bellingham, WA, and Lino and TJ Biasini of Milpitas, CA; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and in-laws, Anthony Fabbio, Sr. of Utica, and Marion Daniels of Las Vegas; her godchildren, Judy Tomaselli, Elisa Myzal, and Wayne Biasini; her dear friend, Sue Spinella; and former daughter-in-law, Joyce Asselta. Angie was predeceased by her in-laws, John A. Asselta, Daniel “Asselta” Daniels, Dolores A. (Asselta) Fabbio, and Natale Biasini; and her friends, Katie Tomaselli, and Mary Spinella. A special thank you is extended to the nursing staff of the Cedar Wing of the Presbyterian Home for CNY, Inc. especially Anthony Joseph for all the care and attention shown to Angie and her family. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc. 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. Expressions of sympathy in the form of donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in lieu of floral offerings; envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Angie’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Friday morning at 9:30 from the funeral home and at 10:30 at St. Anthony and St. Agnes Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be officiated by Msgr. Francis Willenburg. Entombment will follow in Calvary Mausoleum.
