Angela M. "Blondie" (Cretaro) Dorsagno

Mrs. Angela M. "Blondie" (Cretaro) Dorsagno, age 84, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at Rome Memorial Hospital with the love and support of her family by her side. Born in Rome, NY on July 29, 1924, Angela was the daughter of the late Angelo and Jennie (Viseusi) Cretaro. Raised and educated in Rome, she was a graduate of Rome Free Academy. On February 27, 1942 she married Harry M. Dorsagno with whom she shared 45 years prior to his passing in 1987; their marriage was a blessing to each other, and Harry often mentioned that there was no other woman who “could shine Blondie’s shoes”. Blondie was employed for numerous years as an assembler at the Sperry Rand Corporation. She dedicated herself to her family, caring for her husband, children, and the generations that followed. She was especially known for her hospitality at family gatherings highlighted by her legendary sauce and meatballs. She was always thinking of others, especially those who needed a helping hand, and she never forgot her relatives in their native land of Italy where she sent packages of love and goodies. But her greatest and most fulfilling relationships were derived from her family who she adored and appreciated. She was a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish. Angela is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, all of Rome, Shirley and Edward Ziemba, Mary Jane and Nicholas Sarus, and Johanne and Fred Sarus, who opened their home to care for her mother this past year; her sons and their families, all of Utica, David “Dee Dee” Dorsagno and his companion, Sue Manzer, and Rick and Sue Dorsagno, owners of Rick's Place and Wizard's Beauty Salon. Angela cherished in her heart the memory of her son and daughter-in-law, Harry R. “Comacho” and Donna Marie Dorsagno who preceded her in death. She also leaves her grandchildren, Valerie and Randy Baron, Angela “GiGi” Testa, Gil and Sally Guzman, Feddie, Jr. and Becky Sarus, Kayla Sarus and Brandon Rutledge, Sean Dorsagno, Shawnda Dorsagno, Colleen Dorsagno, Tammy Ann Dorsagno, Jennifer Dorsagno, J.R. Dorsagno and Stephanie, Raymond Dorsagno and Brandy, Stacy Dorsagno, Buddy and Cindy Dorsagno, Steven A. Dorsagno, Harry M. and Dawn Dorsagno, Beeper Dorsagno and Lisa, and Samantha Fisher; her 23 great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchldren. Survivors also include her brothers and sisters-in-law, Edward Cretaro, retired Police Chief/Rome Police Dept. and his wife, Elvira of Rome, and Daniel and Mary Cretaro of TX; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and sister-in-law, Connie Cretaro. Blondie also leaves her friends, Jody, Marie, Lucy, Janice, and Lynn, as well as her many friends at the Steinhorst Apartments. She also was favored with a concerned and enduring friendship with Ann Abbott who shared many years with Blondie and her family. She also leaves her loyal canine, Miss Molly. She was predeceased by her brothers, Louie Cretaro, and Peter Cretaro. The family extends heartfelt appreciation to the AmCare Ambulance, the Floyd Volunteer Fire Department, and the Rome Memorial Hospital ER physicians and staff for their compassion, kindness, and commitment during Angela’s untimely passing. Visitation will be held Sunday from 4:00-7:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave. By family request, please omit floral offerings. Angela’s funeral service will commence on Monday morning at 10:30 from the funeral home and at 11:30 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Parish where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery.
